Osmazômes (Huysmans) [PDF]

open access: yesNineteenth-Century French Studies, 2008
It is generally known that in J.-K. Huysmans, the fascination with concentrates appears in two semantic fields: in nutrition and in æsthetics. To that, in our view, may be added a third: religion. Through a process we have dubbed “a reduction to the essence,” we argue that the osmazôme alluded to in A rebours, the ptomaïne mentioned in En rade , and ...

Barn owls exert top‐down effects on the abundance and behavior of rodent pests

open access: yesEcological Applications, Volume 36, Issue 3, April 2026.
Abstract Predators can exert top‐down effects on their prey by direct consumption, by imposing risk of predation, or a combination of both. Barn owls in agriculture present a system with attributes that should, according to theory, lead to strong top‐down effects, but research is ...

Does pollen form follow function? Effects of stigma type, pollination mode and habitat on pollen morphological traits

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 3, March 2026.
The results support the idea that pollen morphology is functionally adaptive and shaped by distinct phases of pollen performance: dispersal, environmental exposure, and stigma interaction. These findings highlight the potential of trait‐based approaches for understanding reproductive strategies in angiosperms.
