EM Environmental Evaluation of HVDC Transmission Lines
The 2006 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Environmental Electromagnetics, 2006Due to the high voltage operation of transmission lines, corona discharge phenomena are quite common around AC and DC transmission lines. A large amount of positive and/or negative ions are generated during the corona processes. The effects of corona space charge arising from HVDC transmission lines are much more significant than that in AC ...

The fault location method for HVDC transmission line
2006 China International Conference on Electricity Distribution (CICED 2006), 2006The integrative fault location approach which combines the single terminal, dual terminals traveling wave location method and traditional fault location method has been brought forward. The new approach could fetch up the deficiency of the dual terminals traveling wave location method. The possible unsuccessful case of traveling wave fault location has

Shielding Effect of HVAC Transmission Lines on the Ion-Flow Field of HVDC Transmission Lines
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2013The HVDC and HVAC transmission lines running on the same tower is a promising technology to improve the transmission capacity of an existing corridor. The ions generated by corona discharge of HVDC transmission lines will strengthen the ground-level electric field, which may endanger human exposure.

Conductor surface voltage gradients on bipolar HVDC transmission lines
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1976The method of successive images is used to obtain accurate values of maximum surface voltage gradients for practical HVdc transmission lines. The results are presented in the form of graphs of gradient factors as a function of the principal line parameters.

Test Line Experience with HVDC Overhead Transmission
IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1970Tests were conducted on a high-voltage overhead direct-current test line. Values of radio interference and corona loss were established for certain conductor configurations and pole spacings. Relations between radio interference and corona loss and some weather variables were evaluated.

Adaptive Reclosing Method for Flexible HVDC Transmission Lines
2020 4th International Conference on HVDC (HVDC), 2020With the development of HVDC transmission, half-bridge modular multilevel converter with hybrid HVDC circuit breakers becomes one of the mainstream configuration schemes in HVDC flexible system. However, the existing reclosing strategies have some defects, such as lack of selectivity and adoption of long time delay, due to the inability to determine ...

The simulation study on line protection of HVDC transmission system
2017 2nd International Conference on Power and Renewable Energy (ICPRE), 2017This paper introduces the causes of line fault and expounds traveling wave protection and the criterion of protection action. Then establishes the simulation model of HVDC transmission system based on PSCAD/EMTDC, by which the line fault under different transition resistance and fault distance are simulated.

A Novel Fault-Location Method for HVDC Transmission Lines
IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2010This paper presents a method for locating faults on HVDC transmission lines using two terminal data. Different from those based on the traveling wave principle, the new fault-location algorithm can use any section of the postfault data to locate faults.

A Novel Fault Location Method for HVDC Transmission Lines
2019 IEEE PES GTD Grand International Conference and Exposition Asia (GTD Asia), 2019Considering the frequency-dependent characteristics of line parameters, a novel fault location method for high voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission lines is proposed in this paper. It is of great significance to accurately establish transmission line model.

Asymmetrical design of VSC-based HVDC transmission lines
2012 IEEE Power and Energy Society General Meeting, 2012The advent of VSC-based overhead dc transmission allows reversal of power direction by reversing current flow rather than voltage polarity. This, in turn, allows the poles of HVdc line to be designed independently, taking advantage of polarity-based differences in insulation strength, radio and audible noise generation, and ground-level electric field ...
