Transient analysis of HVDC power transmission systems

European Transactions on Electrical Power, 2004
AbstractThis paper describes a method for dynamic simulation of HVDC transmission systems based on transient circuit analysis during abnormal conditions. Such conditions include sudden drop or rise in the AC system voltage at the rectifier or inverter sides and short‐circuit faults on the DC link. The waveforms of the calculated DC current and terminal

Smart transmission system by HVDC and FACTS

2013 IEEE Grenoble Conference, 2013
Nowadays, more than ever before, electric power becomes fundamental to modern society's existence. The power demand for electricity has been growing very fast during the last decades with a high impact on global climate and environmental conditions. The answer is grid access of large amounts of Renewable Energy Sources (RES), e.g.

Adaptive Control for HVdc Power Transmission Systems

IEEE Transactions on Power Apparatus and Systems, 1985
The transient performance of High Voltage Direct Current (HVdc) power transmission systems depends heavily on the current regulators associated to the converter control systems. The tuning of these current regulators is a function of the converters short-circuit ratio, or equivalently of all the net converter commutation resistances.

Neutral Line Protection System for HVDC Transmission

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1986
This paper described the principle of fault detection and its simulator study, principal circuitry, field test results and field performance records on the neutral line protection system for an HVDC transmission system. In the protection system, 125 Hz ac current injected to the neutral line is utilized as a pilot current to detect the neutral line ...

GTO thyristor applications for HVDC transmission systems

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1990
Conceptual designs for convertor substation equipment for a HVDC (high-voltage direct current) transmission system using current- as well as voltage-source-type GTO (gate turn-off thyristors) power convertors (referred to as VSTGC and CSTGC) are presented. A study indicates that the VSTGC is preferable to the CSTGC.

Well-being analysis for HVDC transmission systems

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1997
This paper presents a technique to evaluate the degree of reliability well-being of HVDC transmission systems. The system well-being is categorized in terms of power system health and margin in addition to the conventional risk index. A hybrid approach is presented to determine the well-being indices for HVDC transmission systems.

Harmonic Interference of HVDC in Transmission Systems

IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 1992
Abstract The HVDC-link in Durnrohr (Austria) has now nine years of operational experience as the first interconnection between the western and eastern transmission systems in Europe. At the moment two further HVDC-links are under erection, one in South-East Austria and the other in Germany.

HVDC transmission system performance from EMC perspective

Proceedings of the International Conference on Electromagnetic Interference and Compatibility, 1999
HVDC technology deals with efficient transportation of hundreds of million watts of electrical power through conversion from ac to dc at the source end and dc to ac at the load end. Irrespective of system configuration, the converter generates a significant amount of power harmonics and feeds onto the transmission system.

Innovative HVDC connections in power transmission systems

PES T&D 2012, 2012
This paper contains a discussion of innovative high voltage DC technologies for transmission systems. The main subjects are multiterminal systems, and meshed (networked) systems. These systems are motivated by reliability requirements and expected large scale increase in generation resources far from load centers.
