Strength of HVOF coating–substrate interfaces

Thin Solid Films, 1998
Abstract A spherical indentation technique has been developed to determine the interfacial adhesion between thick film coatings and substrates. The threshold stress for interfacial delamination is found through a hybrid experimental–numerical approach.

Detrimental Effects of the HVOF Process on CoNiCrAlY

International Thermal Spray Conference, 2014
Abstract MCrAlY coatings deposited by LPPS or HVOF spraying are widely used on turbine blades and vanes to mitigate the effects of oxidation and corrosion. The service life of a MCrAlY layer is dependent on the loss of aluminum, which is consumed by oxidation on the surface and by diffusion into the substrate.

Heat transfer during HVOF deposition

Surface and Coatings Technology, 1998
Heat transfer processes during high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) deposition of WC coatings are studied. Experiments were conducted with temperature measurement in the substrate by thermocouples. A designed 2D computer simulation model of the spraying process with a moving torch is fitted to match the experimentally obtained temperature evolution.

HVOF Combustion spraying of inconel powder

Journal of Thermal Spray Technology, 1993
A major trend in the thermal spray industry has been to increase the gas jet velocity to obtain better coating attributes. One emerging technology now used in industry is the high-velocity oxygen fuel process (HVOF). High-velocity spray guns combine oxygen and a fuel gas to generate heat and extremely high particle velocities.

Nd:YOV4 laser polishing on WC-Co HVOF coating

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2017
WC/Co coatings are widely applied to different types of components due to their extraordinary performance properties including high hardness and wear properties. In industrial applications High Velocity Oxy-Fuel (HVOF) technique is extensively used to deposit hard metal coatings.

Tribocorrosion behaviour of HVOF cermet coatings

Corrosion Science, 2007
Abstract The main purpose of this work is to analyze the degradation mechanisms induced on industrial HVOF cermet coatings by tribocorrosion. Tribocorrosion of cermet coatings is a subject that has not been widely analyzed in research studies: in fact, while many works dealing with wear or corrosion of HVOF cermet coatings are published, studies ...

Development of Nano‐reinforced HVOF Sprayed Ceramic Coatings

Advanced Engineering Materials, 2006
HVOF spraying has been demonstrated to produce dense ceramic coatings with improved density and mechanical properties compared to the conventional plasma sprayed ceramic coatings. Nanocrystalline, nanocomposite coatings have been found to offer improved mechanical properties compared to their conventional counterparts.

Numerical Modeling of Suspension HVOF Spray

Journal of Thermal Spray Technology, 2015
A three-dimensional two-way coupled Eulerian-Lagrangian scheme is used to simulate suspension high-velocity oxy-fuel spraying process. The mass, momentum, energy, and species equations are solved together with the realizable k-e turbulence model to simulate the gas phase.

2010
A comparative analysis was performed for a cumulative-detonation device, which is applied for coating deposition, and HVOF devices of serial production. A peculiar feature of the cumulative-detonation device is an availability of two chambers, in which combustion mixtures are burning with 10 to 30 Hz frequency.

HVOF-Sprayed Functionally Gradient Coating

International Thermal Spray Conference, 1999
Abstract Thermally sprayed alumina coatings are widely used to improve wear resistance and heat insulation of steel and other metals. Usually these coatings have been made by plasma or flame spraying. HVOF-sprayed alumina coatings are more wear resistant and better bonded to the base material than with plasma and flame spraying.
