Investigation of dynamically compacted ground by HVSR-based approach
Soil Dynamics and Earthquake Engineering, 2013Abstract This paper proposes a HVSR (horizontal to vertical spectral ratio)-based approach to assess a deep and dynamically compacted fill area in Western Sydney. In addition to recognizing that the predominant resonance peak of the HVSR curve is a reflection of the impedance contrast between the surface layers and bedrock, the present paper ...

Detecting site resonant frequency using HVSR
2020In this investigation, we examine the uncertainties using the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique on earthquake recordings to detect site resonant frequencies at 207 KiK-net sites. Our results show that the scenario dependence of response (pseudospectral acceleration) spectral ratio could bias the estimates of resonant frequencies ...

Analysis and Modeling of HVSR in the Presence of a Velocity Inversion: The Case of Venosa, Italy
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2005The aim of this work is to check the stability of the horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratios (HVSRs) calculated at the Venosa station site (Italy). This site lies over a layer of anthropogenic fill (4 m thick), a rigid layer of conglomerates (15 m thick), and a thick layer of clays (about 300 m thick) above the seismic bedrock.

Centroid-based Cluster Analysis of HVSR Data for Seismic Microzonation
Proceedings, 2014atasets acquired for studies of seismic microzoning in various urban centers of Sicilian towns, have been used to test clustering analysis through a non-hierarchical centroid-based algorithm. In this context clustering techniques may be useful to identify areas with similar seismic behaviour through HVSR data.

Improvement of HVSR technique by cluster analysis
2013The Horizontal to Vertical Spectral Ratio (HVSR) technique, applied to ambient noise, is widely used to quickly estimate the fundamental frequency of a site. The HVSR technique is based on numerous assumptions about the propagation medium and the nature of the seismic noise, often hard to verified.

HVSR Technique Improvement Using Redundant Wavelet Transform
2009In this study we demonstrate the use of Wavelet Transform (WT) as all improvement tool for the horizontal to vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) technique. Since the use of non-stationary transients in microtremor signals remains an open question we investigate the effect of long duration undetectable (by amplitude thresholding methods) transients in HVSR ...

Comparison of Site Classification from VS30, VS10, and HVSR in Italy
Bulletin of the Seismological Society of America, 2009The aim of this work is to verify if (1) the average of shear-wave velocity from the surface to 30 m depth (V-S30) is a good proxy of site amplification in a country with complex geology like Italy, (2) the grouping of V-S30 in different soil classes and relevant spectra in the Italian seismic codes is adequate, and (3) shallow shear-wave profiles (V ...

Combined Analysis of Ambient Vibration HVSR and Active MASW Method
Proceedings, 2014The well-known non-uniqueness inversion problems of dispersion curves as well as the reduced resolution at higher depths could be improved by performing a combined analysis of data sets of different types. In this study, Nakamura’s technique or HVSR technique was applied to several ambient vibration recordings performed at the surface of alluvium ...

SESIMIC SITE CHARACTERIZATION BY HVSR APPROACH
The surface seismic methods represent non-invasive, widely accepted geophysical methods for near-surface characterization and evaluation of the local soil conditions which have significant influence on the site response during an earthquake. In this study particular attention was paid to the use of the single station microtremor Horizontal-to-Verticalopenaire +1 more source
