Pathogens in ticks collected in Israel: I. Bacteria and protozoa in Hyalomma aegyptium and Hyalomma dromedarii collected from tortoises and camels

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2022
Ticks were collected from 30 Greek tortoise (Testudo graeca), and 10 Arabian camels (dromedary) (Camelus dromedarius) in Israel. All those collected from Greek tortoises belonged to Hyalomma aegyptium, while all specimens collected from the camels belonged to Hyalomma dromedarii. Out of 84 specimens of H. aegyptium, 31 pools were examined by PCR, while

Hyalomma marginatum in Europe: The Past, Current Status, and Future Challenges-A Systematic Review. [PDF]

open access: yesTransbound Emerg Dis
Hyalomma marginatum is a prominent tick vector responsible for transmitting various pathogens, including the Crimean–Congo hemorrhagic fever virus (CCHFV), across Europe. This systematic review consolidates findings from 144 publications regarding the geographical distribution of H. marginatum and its associated pathogens.

Discordant phylogeographic patterns between the tortoise tick Hyalomma aegyptium and their Testudo graeca hosts

open access: yesTicks and Tick-borne Diseases, 2022
Tortoise ticks, Hyalomma aegyptium, are considered so strongly associated with their hosts that they are even used as indirect indicators for them. In such a case, a robust pattern of congruence between host and parasite could be expected, with phylogeographic breaks within the host being reflected in their parasites.

The Iranian Hyalomma (Acari: Ixodidae) with a key to the identification of male species

open access: yesPersian Journal of Acarology, 2013
The taxonomic status of ticks in the genus Hyalomma, as prominent vectors of domestic animal and human pathogen agents as well as hematophagous parasites of all terrestrial animals has a problematic history due to variability. The present paper is based

Borrelia turcica sp. nov., isolated from the hard tick Hyalomma aegyptium in Turkey [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2004
Previously, a novel, fast-growing spirochaete was isolated from the hard tick Hyalomma aegyptium, which infests tortoises (Testudo graeca), by using Barbour-Stoenner-Kelly (BSK) II medium; the tick samples were taken from the Istanbul area in northwestern Turkey [Güner et al. (2003). Microbiology 149, 2539-2544].

Molecular investigation of tick-borne pathogens from different regions of Morocco

open access: yesTicks and Tick-Borne Diseases
Tick-borne pathogens are a worldwide threat to public health that can only be mitigated by knowledge on tick-host associations coupled with surveillance of their infection by pathogenic microorganisms. This information is not equally available throughout

The Iranian Hyalomma (Acari: Ixodidae) with molecular evidences to understand taxonomic status of species complexes

open access: yesPersian Journal of Acarology, 2019
The identification of Hyalomma is a challenging issue in the systematics of ixodid ticks. Here, we examined 960 adult males of Hyalomma tick from 10 provinces of Iran using morphological and molecular methods.
