MIMO Hybrid Beamforming

2023
In mmWave massive MIMO, the required number of radio frequency (RF) chains becomes impractical due to the expensive and power-hungry components such as variable gain power amplifiers, filters, mixers, and analog-to-digital/digital-to-analog converters (ADCs/DACs). A promising solution to this problem is reducing the number of radiofrequency (RF) chains

Hybrid analog digital beamforming

2022
In recent years, two of the main trends in wireless communication have been higher carrier frequencies and larger antenna arrays. Each trend by itself allows for a significant gain in system performance, but they are difficult to combine. The former trend, higher carrier frequencies in the millimeter-wave (mm-wave) range, offers an unprecedented ...

Hybrid beamforming: reduced eigen beamforming on beam signals

2002 International Zurich Seminar on Broadband Communications Access - Transmission - Networking (Cat. No.02TH8599), 2003
A hybrid beamforming technique for multiple antenna receivers is introduced. It is a combination of a simple fixed beam method and the adaptive eigen beamforming algorithm. This two-stage solution allows for a user-specific scalable trade-off between performance and complexity, depending on the interference scenario.

Analysis of diversity, beamforming and hybrid diversity-beamforming systems

2003 IEEE International Conference on Acoustics, Speech, and Signal Processing, 2003. Proceedings. (ICASSP '03)., 2004
In this paper we compare Shannon capacities of diversity, beamforming, and hybrid diversity-beamforming systems for reverse and forward links. Our results show that the reverse link capacity of a diversity system is higher than that of a beamforming system, while the beamforming system can provide higher capacity than the diversity system in the ...

Adaptive Optical Processing for Wideband Hybrid Beamforming

IEEE Transactions on Communications, 2019
Multiuser centralized radio access networks (C-RANs) need to adapt to time-varying radio environments, and adaptation is advantageously split between remote antenna units (RAUs) and centralized baseband units (BBUs) to minimize the required fronthaul throughput.

Robust beamforming method for SDMA with interleaved subarray hybrid beamforming

2016 IEEE 27th Annual International Symposium on Personal, Indoor, and Mobile Radio Communications (PIMRC), 2016
This paper considers millimeter-wave access network systems with space division multiple access using an interleaved subarray hybrid beamforming structure, where antenna elements in each subarray scatter uniformly over the whole antenna array. The structure can provide high system capacity by multiplexing users in the space domain with narrow beams ...

Two-bit hybrid beamforming for broadcasting

2016 24th Signal Processing and Communication Application Conference (SIU), 2016
In this paper, a hybrid system consisting of analog and digital beamformers is proposed to reduce the hardware complexity of full digital beamforming. In analog beamforming part, specially chosen two-bit radio frequency (RF) phase shifters are used.
