Predictive Energy Management for Hybrid Electric Aircraft Propulsion Systems

open access: yesIEEE Transactions on Control Systems Technology, 2023
We present a Model Predictive Control (MPC) algorithm for energy management in aircraft with hybrid electric propulsion systems consisting of gas turbine and electric motor components. Series and parallel configurations are considered. By combining a point-mass aircraft dynamical model with models of electrical losses and losses in the gas turbine, the

Static highly elliptical orbits using hybrid low-thrust propulsion [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Static highly-elliptical orbits enabled using hybrid solar-sail/solar-electric propulsion are investigated. These newly proposed orbits, termed Taranis orbits, have free selection of ‘critical inclination’ and use low-thrust propulsion to compensate for ...

Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,
