We present a hybrid photonic crystal fiber in which a guided mode is confined simultaneously by modified total internal reflection from an array of air holes and antiresonant reflection from a line of high-index inclusions. Experimental results demonstrate that this fiber shares properties of both index-guided and photonic bandgap structures.

Fiber reorientation in hybrid helicoidal composites
Naturally occurring biological materials with stiff fibers embedded in a ductile matrix are commonly known to achieve excellent balance between stiffness, strength and ductility. In particular, biological composite materials with helicoidal architecture have been shown to exhibit enhanced damage tolerance and increased impact energy absorption. However,

Tensile Behavior of Unidirectional Bamboo/Coir Fiber Hybrid Composites
Natural fibers, such as bamboo, flax, hemp, and coir, are usually different in terms of microstructure and chemical composition. The mechanical properties of natural fibers strongly depend on the organization of cell walls and the cellulose micro-fibril ...

The advent of telecommunications in 1870s completely revolutionized the world of communications. Metallic cables consisting of twisted wire cables, co-axial cables were the media of choice for many years. These could be used efficiently up to frequencies of 10MHz but the system performance degraded beyond this range. However, with the increasing demand

Self-assembled MnO2/Reduced Graphene Oxide Hybrid Fibers as Electrode Materials for Supercapacitors
Hybrid fibers of reduced graphene oxide nanosheets with MnO2 were fabricated by a facile chemical reduction and self-assembly strategy. FESEM images have shown that MnO2 rods with diameters of approximately 50-80 nm anchor on the reduced graphene oxide ...

Rheological properties of composite polymers and hybrid nanocomposites
This paper summarizes a review of the viscosimetric, viscoelastic and rheological properties of polymers and hybrid nanocomposite polymers. Hybrid nanocomposites can be combined from natural fibers or synthetic fibers and/or both.
