In this chapter we organize the literature on the hybrid flow shop scheduling problem that has appeared since the late 1950’s. We see a number of interesting and diverse industrial applications of this system, and find that the majority of research focuses on the makespan objective.

Hybrid flow shop scheduling using genetic algorithms
Proceedings of the 3rd World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation (Cat. No.00EX393), 2002We investigate the genetic algorithm approach for scheduling hybrid flow shops with minimum makespan as performance measure. The hybrid flow shop problem is characterized as the scheduling of jobs in a flow shop environment where, at any stage, there may exist multiple machines.

Review on Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling
2011 International Conference of Information Technology, Computer Engineering and Management Sciences, 2011As a vital decision-making progress, hybrid flow shops (HFS) are common manufacturing environments in which a set of n jobs are to be processed in a series of m stages optimizing a given objective function. Focusing on its complex nature, this paper presents a literature review on HFS scheduling problem, classifies the various type of the problem ...

A Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling Problem
2019Hybrid flow shop environment generally refers to the flow shop with multiple parallel machines per stage. Hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (HFSP) is a complex combinatorial optimization problem that came across in many real-life problems. In this study, a real-life HFSP of a lubricant company is considered, where the aim is to minimize total ...

Hybrid flow shop scheduling with finite buffers
International Journal of Simulation and Process Modelling, 2018In this paper, the scheduling problem for hybrid flow shop is investigated with the consideration of the finite buffers. Different from the existing works which focus on the makespan minimisation under the constraints of given intermediate buffer sizes, this paper investigates how to decide the reasonable size of the intermediate buffer.

Hybrid flow shop scheduling with parallel batching
International Journal of Production Economics, 2009Abstract In this research the problem of parallel batch scheduling in a hybrid flow shop environment with minimizing Cmax is studied. In parallel batching it is assumed that machines in some stages are able to process a number of operations simultaneously.

Generic simulation model for hybrid flow-shop
Computers & Industrial Engineering, 1999Abstract In this paper, we propose a generic simulation model for Hybrid Flow-Shop (HFS) where the job priorities at each machine stage are established dynamically. Based on an object-oriented conceptual model of the HFS system class, an initial dynamic simulation prototype was developed using the Simula language and the external class GPSSS (GPSS ...

Hybrid Flow Shop Scheduling with Availability Constraints
2013The success of a product depends on the costs incurred through its entire processing. Indeed, an efficient schedule can significantly reduce the total costs. Most of the literature on scheduling assumes that machines are always available. However, due to maintenance activities machines cannot operate continuously without some unavailability periods ...

Hybrid flow-shop scheduling with assembly operations
International Journal of Production Economics, 2001Abstract Hybrid scheduling for the production system including parts machining and assembly operations is studied. Several products of different kinds are ordered to be produced and parts for the products are manufactured in the flow-shop consisting of multiple machines.
