Hybrid laser arc welding: State-of-art review
Optics & Laser Technology, 2018Abstract Hybrid laser arc welding simultaneously utilizes the arc welding and the laser welding, in a common interaction zone. The synergic effects of laser beam and eclectic arc in the same weld pool results in an increase of welding speed and penetration depth along with the enhancement of gap bridging capability and process stability.

Hybrid welding of stainless steels or aluminum alloys was performed using the heat sources of YAG laser and TIG, or YAG laser and MIG, respectively. The effects of welding conditions and melt flows on penetration depth, weld bead geometry and bubble/porosity formation were investigated with X-ray transmission real-time observation method.

Interaction mechanisms in hybrid laser arc welding
ICALEO 2014: 33nd International Congress on Laser Materials Processing, Laser Microprocessing and Nanomanufacturing, 2014Achievable benefits in hybrid laser-arc welding are closely related to suitable parameter settings. Basic optimizations consequently need a profound understanding of the relevance of involved interaction mechanisms. These are however differently evaluated and discussed in literature.
