The purpose of this paper is to show how Lagrange multipliers can be used with finite elements to achieve a number of desirable properties in the underlying approximation. For elliptic boundary value problems, variational principles can be developed in which all boundary conditions are natural.

A method combining iterations of the Laguerre and modified Laguerre root-finding methods was developed to correct a problem of the modified Laguerre method with “paired approximations”. Experimental results indicate that this hybrid Laguerre method successfully separates approximation pairs which inhibit convergence in the modified Laguerre method.

The limitations of single algorithm approaches lead to an attempt to hybridize or fuse multiple algorithms in the hope of removing the underlying limitations. In this chapter, the authors study the evolutionary algorithms for problem solving and try to use them in a unique manner so as to get a better performance.
