The modeling and simulation of physical systems is of key importance in many areas of science and engineering, and thus can benefit from high-quality software tools. In previous research we have demonstrated how functional programming can form the basis of an expressive language for causal hybrid modeling and simulation. There is a growing realization,

I review a class of hybrid models of neurons that combine continuous spike-generation mechanisms and a discontinuous ‘after-spike’ reset of state variables. Unlike Hodgkin–Huxley-type conductance-based models, the hybrid spiking models have a few parameters derived from the bifurcation theory; instead of matching neuronal electrophysiology, they match ...

The fundamentals of hybrid systems modelers
49th IEEE Conference on Decision and Control (CDC), 2010Hybrid systems modelers have become the corner stone of embedded system development, with Simulink a de facto standard and Modelica a new player. Such tools still raise a number of issues that, we believe, require more fundamental understanding. In this paper we propose using non standard analysis as a semantic domain for hybrid systems — non standard ...

Physical and hybrid models: hybrid models
2010The complexity of the circulatory system makes its analysis very difficult or sometimes impossible in clinical environment. Moreover, external actions such as mechanical circulatory or ventilatory assistance applied in cases of cardiovascular insufficiency cause the situation to be even more difficult to be analyzed.

Hybrid Multilinear Modeling and Applications
2014Tensor systems are a framework for modeling of multilinear hybrid systems with discrete and continuous valued signals. Two examples from building services engineering and multi-agent systems show applications of this framework. A tensor model of a heating system is derived and approximated by tensor decomposition methods first.

This chapter is a case study of Carroll Community College, a small rural community college, and its plan to develop a viable travel program by using a hybrid model. This model includes three distinct cohorts: study abroad students (students who travel and take an associated credit course), lifelong learning students (travelers who take a continuing ...
