Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Perspective: Theory and simulation of hybrid halide perovskites [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2017
Organic-inorganic halide perovskites present a number of challenges for first-principles atomistic materials modeling. Such “plastic crystals” feature dynamic processes across multiple length and time scales. These include the following: (i) transport of slow ions and fast electrons; (ii) highly anharmonic lattice dynamics with short phonon lifetimes; (

Phase Evolution Kinetics in Additive‐Free 19.75% Organic Photovoltaics Empowered by Solvent Vapor Annealing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Solvent vapor annealing enables kinetic control of additive‐free morphology in organic solar cells. Selective plasticization of acceptor forms an optimal fibrillar network, boosting efficiency to 19.06% (binary) and 19.75% (ternary), with ultrafast exciton dissociation and reduced recombination.

Selective enhancement of optical nonlinearity in two-dimensional organic-inorganic lead iodide perovskites

open access: yesNature Communications, 2017
Hybrid metal halide perovskites can exhibit improved optoelectronic properties when their dimensionality is reduced. Here, Saouma et al. study the enhancement of third-order nonlinearities in two-dimensional lead iodide perovskites in the Ruddlesden ...

Shaping Matter with Acoustic Waves: From Particles to Functional Structures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Acoustic‐directed assembly is reviewed as a materials‐oriented strategy for organizing particles, polymers, metals, and biological systems into functional structures. The review distinguishes reversible manipulation from permanent structure formation through medium fixation, particle fixation, and in situ material generation, highlighting routes toward

Two‐dimensional halide perovskite quantum‐well emitters: A critical review

open access: yesEcoMat, 2021
Two‐dimensional (2D) halide perovskites can be regarded as natural organic‐inorganic hybrid quantum wells, which exhibit very promising light‐emitting applications due to their high photoluminescence quantum yield, narrow emission bandwidth, and large ...

Hybrid Perovskites: Prospects for Concentrator Solar Cells [PDF]

open access: yesAdvanced Science, 2018
AbstractPerovskite solar cells have shown a meteoric rise of power conversion efficiency and a steady pace of improvements in their stability of operation. Such rapid progress has triggered research into approaches that can boost efficiencies beyond the Shockley–Queisser limit stipulated for a single‐junction cell under normal solar illumination ...
