Natural root grafting in hybrid poplar clones

Trees, 2020
Root grafting occurs in 15-year-old hybrid poplar clones; and tree proximity, tree and root sizes are key factors enhancing its frequency. Root grafting in trees is a well-recognized phenomenon allowing nutrient and photosynthate redistribution between connected trees.

Cloning and expression of multiple metallothioneins from hybrid poplar

New Phytologist, 2004
•  In an effort to understand processes that are related to heavy metal sequestration, we characterized six metallothionein genes (PtdMTs) in the hybrid cottonwood, Populus trichocarpa × deltoides. •  cDNA microarrays and reverse transcriptase-polymerase chain reaction were used to examine PtdMT expression in poplar tissues. They displayed differential

Compartmentalization response of two clones of hybrid‐poplar

European Journal of Forest Pathology, 1993
AbstractA 14‐day bioassay indicated the effectiveness of Compartmentalization evident 24 months following wounding of two clones of hybrid‐poplar. The boundary pattern adjacent to columns of wound‐initiated discoloration indicated that column boundary layer formation was not the sole determinant for the effectiveness of Compartmentalization.

Kiln-drying lumber quality of hybrid poplar clones

Holzforschung, 2007
Abstract Hybrid poplars are currently used in North America primarily for the production of pulp fibre and in the manufacture of engineered solid wood products. Recently, the deployment of poplars as a short-rotation fibre crop has been of interest to mitigate the increasing amount of plantation-grown short fibre resources (hardwoods ...

Steam-bending properties of seven poplar hybrid clones

International Journal of Material Forming, 2013
The steam-bending behavior of seven poplar hybrid clones from three growing sites was evaluated on kiln-dried specimens following two types of drying, an elevated-temperature and conventional schedule. The bending quality was assessed using quantitative and qualitative methods.

Collection and distribution of poplar species, hybrids and clones

Biomass, 1990
Abstract Three countries participated in the ‘Poplar Exchange’ activity of the 3-year programme of Task 2 of the International Energy Agency's Bioenergy Agreement. The objectives of this activity were to exchange clones and/or seeds for immediate use in new environments and to collect information on clonal reactions to various diseases in different ...

Screening Hybrid Poplar Clones for Susceptibility to Cryptorhynchus lapathi (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)

Journal of Economic Entomology, 2008
The poplar-and-willow borer, Cryptorhynchus lapathi (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a wood-boring pest of economic importance in irrigated hybrid poplar (Populus spp.) farms in eastern Washington and Oregon. There is no practical insecticide control tactic against either the larval or adult stage of C. lapathi. To assess variability in C.
