Elucidating the Genetic Basis of Columnar Upright Architecture in Populus Through CRISPR Disruption of TILLER ANGLE CONTROL1. [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Biotechnol J
ABSTRACT Narrow or upright branch angles in shoots and leaves lead to columnar, upright‐growing tree architectures, as observed in various tree species such as Lombardy poplar (Populus nigra var. italica). However, the genetic mechanism underlying this unique growth habit in Lombardy poplar has not yet been elucidated.

Universal reaction norms for the sustainable cultivation of hybrid poplar clones under climate change in Italy

open access: yesiForest - Biogeosciences and Forestry, 2022
The cultivation of hybrid poplar clones is increasing worldwide. Hundreds of hectares of plantations now occur across Europe and other continents such as North America, using tested clones and novel genotypes.

Effect of wastewater sludge treatment on early growth and physiological responses of willow (Salix spp.) and poplar (Populus spp.) pot-grown plants [PDF]

open access: yesSilva Balcanica, 2021
Combining biomass production from fast-growing woody species with wastewater treatment is an attractive concept from the economic, energy and environmental points of view.

Discovery of Geographically Robust Hybrid Poplar Clones [PDF]

open access: yesSilvae Genetica, 2019
Abstract Hybrid poplar clonal growth in the states (regions) of Minnesota (MN), Indiana (IN), Michigan (MI), and New York (NY) USA was analyzed to discover 10 geographically robust (geo-robust) clones, all P. deltoides x P.

Laminated veneer lumber (LVL) manufacturing using three hybrid poplar clones

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture and Forestry, 2012
Laminated veneer lumbers (LVLs) were manufactured from veneers of 3 rotary peeled fast growing hybrid poplar clones, I-214 (Populus xeuramericana), I-77/51 (Populus deltoides), and S.307-26 (Populus deltoides), with a phenol formaldehyde (PF) adhesive. Two Populus deltoides clones that are grown in Turkey were used for the first time in LVL production.

Growth, productivity and water use in three hybrid poplar clones [PDF]

open access: yesTree Physiology, 1998
Three drought treatments (none, medium and severe) were applied to three container-grown, hybrid poplar clones (Beaupré, Trichobel and Ghoy) as a series of drying cycles over two years-in a greenhouse in 1994 and outside in 1995. Leaf area development, annual biomass production and annual water use were recorded. Clone Beaupré had greater rates of leaf

Comparative analysis of growth and photosynthetic characteristics of (Populus simonii × P. nigra) × (P. nigra × P. simonii) hybrid clones of different ploidides. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
To evaluate differences among poplar clones of various ploidies, 12 hybrid poplar clones (P. simonii × P. nigra) × (P. nigra × P. simonii) with different ploidies were used to study phenotypic variation in growth traits and photosynthetic characteristics.

Agronomic performance of 27 Populus clones evaluated after two 3‐year coppice rotations in Henan, China

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2020
Selecting superior clones is the first step for commercial short‐rotation coppice cultures to provide biomass and bioenergy. Till date, such selection for hybrid Populus clones in middle China is absent.

The Histology of Hybrid Poplar Clones Inoculated with Septoria musiva [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Disease, 2007
Septoria musiva causes stem cankers that severely limit production of susceptible hybrid poplars in eastern North America. A field experiment was conducted with resistant clone DN34 and susceptible clone NC11505 in order to (i) identify tissues colonized by the pathogen, (ii) describe tissue responses to S.
