A reliable and straightforward index to avoid nuisance trip of the conventional Z‐based loss‐of‐field relay in synchronous generators

open access: yesIET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, 2022
The conventional impedance (Z)‐based relay which is the well‐known relay to preserve the power plant's synchronous generator (PPSG) against loss of field (LOF) accident may fail during some stable power swing (SPS); on the other hand, most of the ...

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

Unique Performance Considerations for Printable Organic Semiconductor and Perovskite Radiation Detectors: Toward Consensus on Best Practice Evaluation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A lack of standard approaches for testing and reporting the performance of metal halide perovskites and organic semiconductor radiation detectors has resulted in inconsistent interpretation of performance parameters, impeding progress in the field. This Perspective recommends key metrics and experimental details, which are suggested for reporting in ...

Photoswitchable Conductive Metal–Organic Frameworks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A conductive material where the conductivity can be modulated remotely by irradiation with light is presented. It is based on films of conductive metal–organic framework type Cu3(HHTP)2 with embedded photochromic molecules such as azobenzene, diarylethene, spiropyran, and hexaarylbiimidazole in the pores.

Ab Initio Study on 3D Anisotropic Ferroelectric Switching Mechanism and Coercive Field in HfO2 and ZrO2

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study uncovers a new switching mechanism in HfO2 and ZrO2, where the absence of a non‐polar layer along the a‐direction induces interaction between polar layers. Consequently, the switching barriers for growth are lower than those for nucleation in this direction, leading to a size‐dependent coercive field that matches experimental observations ...

Emergency Prevention Control as a Means of Power Quality Improvement in a Shipboard Hybrid Electric Power System

open access: yesEnergies
The problems associated with the greenhouse effect have increased the desire to limit carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions into the atmosphere, including emissions produced by shipboard electrical power systems. This has led to a further search for solutions in this area, such as shipboard hybrid electric power systems (SHEPSs). These systems do not yet have
