Nammo hybrid rocket propulsion TRL improvement program

open access: closed48th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference & Exhibit, 2012
In 2010, Nammo initiated an ESA-funded hybrid propulsion Technology Readiness Level (TRL) improvement program based on ideas proposed in a study performed for Ariane 5 ME a year before. In a program lasting less than one year, Nammo executed 29 hybrid rocket firing tests using hydrogen peroxide as the oxidizer.

On use of hybrid rocket propulsion for suborbital vehicles

Acta Astronautica, 2018
Abstract While the majority of operating suborbital rockets use solid rocket propulsion, recent advancements in the field of hybrid rocket motors lead to renewed interest in their use in sounding rockets. This paper presents results of optimisation of sounding rockets using hybrid propulsion.

Paraffin-based Fuels and Energetic Additives for Hybrid Rocket Propulsion

51st AIAA/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference, 2015
Energetic additives for hybrid rocket propulsion, investigated at the Space Propulsion Laboratory (SPLab) of Politecnico di Milano, are discussed in this paper in order to estimate the potential increase of hybrid rocket performance. Traditional HTPB-based and paraffin-based fuels are considered, with special emphasis to the second ones.

Hybrid rocket propulsion systems for outer planet exploration missions

Acta Astronautica, 2016
Abstract Outer planet exploration missions require significant propulsive capability, particularly to achieve orbit insertion. Missions to explore the moons of outer planets place even more demanding requirements on propulsion systems, since they involve multiple large Δ V maneuvers.
