When Silence Speaks: A Perforated Hepatic Cyst, Intact Omental Cyst, and Cholelithiasis

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT A 39‐year‐old man from an echinococcosis‐endemic region presented with acute left upper quadrant pain. Imaging revealed cholelithiasis, a hepatic and a large abdominal cystic masses, and significant free peritoneal fluid. Urgent laparotomy unexpectedly disclosed three concurrent pathologies: chronic calculous cholecystitis, a perforated ...

Large Symptomatic Splenic Pseudocyst: Case Report of a Rare Entity

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Large symptomatic splenic pseudocysts, though rare, should be considered in patients with persistent left upper abdominal pain as we report in our case. Imaging enables diagnosis, and laparoscopic spleen‐preserving cyst decompression and deroofing provide a safe, effective treatment, relieving symptoms while maintaining splenic function and ...

Mediastinal Hydatid Cyst

open access: yesJournal of the Chinese Medical Association, 2010
The objective of this study was to report our experience in the management of hydatid cysts of the mediastinum.Among 206 patients who underwent surgery in our department for intrathoracic hydatid cysts between September 2001 and September 2008, 7 patients (3.4%) aged 24 to 49 years (mean, 36.2 years) had mediastinal hydatid cysts.

Bioinformatics‐Driven Design of Fusion Recombinant Protein (EgFABP1‐EgTeg) for Enhanced Immunodiagnosis of Hydatid Cysts

open access: yesImmunity, Inflammation and Disease, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Hydatid cyst disease is caused by the parasite Echinococcus and poses significant health concerns worldwide. Due to the lack of early symptoms and limited diagnostic tools, researchers aim to design a more specific and sensitive antigen. The study focuses on developing a recombinant multi‐epitope antigen using two parasite proteins (

Is It Time to Abandon the Absolute Contraindication to FNAC in Pulmonary Hydatid Cysts? A Case Report and Literature Review

open access: yesRespirology Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
This report challenges the historical belief that fine‐needle aspiration (FNAC) is absolutely contraindicated in suspected pulmonary hydatid cysts. By a case of successful diagnosis without anaphylaxis and a systematic review of the literature, we show that with modern image guidance and precautions, the risk may be lower than traditionally thought. It

Brain Involvement in Leishmaniasis

open access: yesCell Biochemistry and Function, Volume 44, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Leishmaniasis is a neglected tropical disease caused by infection with the protozoan parasite Leishmania and it is a significant global health problem. The disease has a wide clinical spectrum, from tegumentary leishmaniasis (TL) that encompasses cutaneous (CL), mucosal (ML) and cutaneous‐diffuse (CDL) forms, to the potentially fatal systemic ...

Can a Solitary Pulmonary Nodule With Positive PET Scan in a Heavy Smoker be Something Other Than Lung Cancer? A Case Report of Pulmonary Hydatid Cyst and Literature Review

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Solitary pulmonary nodule (SPN) in a heavy smoker patient is commonly considered a lung cancer. However, in endemic regions, differential diagnosis should include pulmonary hydatid cyst. We present a 65‐year‐old heavy smoker male with a 5 cm SPN. He had negative serology, and inconclusive PET‐CT. So, it mimicked malignancy.

A Diagnostic Dilemma in Hepatic Cystic Lesions: Radiological Mimicry of Biliary Cystadenoma and Hydatid Cyst in a Histologically Confirmed Simple Hepatic Cyst

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Hepatic cystic lesions pose diagnostic challenges due to overlapping imaging features, as simple hepatic cysts may mimic biliary cystadenoma or hydatid cysts. We report a 43‐year‐old female with chronic right lower abdominal pain, initially diagnosed with hydatid cyst on ultrasonography and later suspected as biliary cystadenoma on CT and MRI.

Incidentally Detected Mediastinal Mass by Transesophageal Echocardiography in a Patient With Severe Mitral Stenosis

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 4, April 2026.
ABSTRACT A mediastinal mass can be incidentally detected during transesophageal echocardiography, so clinicians performing this procedure should be aware of this possibility and able to interpret related echocardiographic findings. In evaluating a 69‐year‐old man with dyspnea, mitral stenosis was identified on transthoracic echocardiography ...
