Experimental droughts in mesocosms reveal a gradient of tolerance in Alpine stream macroinvertebrates

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography, Volume 70, Issue S2, Page S352-S363, December 2025.
Abstract Prolonged droughts, driven by climate change and human pressures on water resources, are increasing in frequency and intensity, particularly impacting Alpine rivers. Benthic macroinvertebrates are one of the most important structural and functional components of Alpine lotic ecosystems.

Temporal and Ontogenetic Changes in Feeding Ecology of a Characid From Karst Dolines of the Neotropics

open access: yesEcology of Freshwater Fish, Volume 34, Issue 4, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Environmental and biological factors strongly shape fish diets, yet little is known about such influences in flooded Karst Dolines of the Neotropical region. This study examined the diet of Deuterodon luetkenii and assessed its temporal and ontogenetic variation in Lagoa Misteriosa, a karstic lagoon. Fish were sampled bimonthly over 1 year and

Adaptive divergence of seasonal heart plasticity between Canadian and Spanish pumpkinseed sunfish populations

open access: yesJournal of Zoology, Volume 322, Issue 4, Page 351-363, April 2024.
We demonstrate seasonal plasticity in heart ventricle size and collagen content in field‐raised pumpkinseed, and the rapid adaptive divergence of size plasticity between populations under contrasting seasonal regimes.
