Phenology determines seasonal variation in ectoparasite loads in a natural insect population [PDF]
1. The extent to which individuals are parasitised is a function of exposure to parasites and the immune response, which in ectotherms may be associated with temperature. 2.

Temperature‐dependent interspecific interference alters pygmy backswimmer predation on water fleas
Increasing densities of water mites alter the predation behaviour of pygmy backswimmer, particularly in higher temperatures. Pygmy backswimmer displayed type II functional response across all the treatments. In the absence of water mites, the functional response was higher at 25°C than at 16°C, indicated by a higher space clearance rate.

Confocal microscopy applied to water mite taxonomy with the description of a new genus of Axonopsinae (Acari, Parasitengona, Hydrachnidia) from Central America [PDF]
8 pages, 11 figures.Vagabundia sci n. gen. n. sp. of the subfamily Axonopsinae is proposed and described. Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, not previously applied to water mite taxonomy, allowed the acquisition and posterior processing of clean ...

Community ecology has so far struggled to integrate both deterministic and stochastic processes into a global model of community variation. To address this issue, we aimed to characterise the ecological conditions that determine the relative importance of deterministic and stochastic community variation in benthic macroinvertebrates.
