Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Study of alkaline hydrothermal activation of belite cements by thermal analysis

open access: yes, 2010
The effect of alkaline hydrothermal activation of class-C fly ash belite cement was studied using thermal analysis (TG/DTG) by determining the increase in the combined water during a period of hydration of 180 days.

Modulation of Homer1 EVH1 domain internal dynamics by putative autism‐associated mutations

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The putative autism‐associated M65I and S97L variants of the EVH1 domain of the postsynaptic scaffold protein Homer1 do not exhibit substantial changes in their overall structure or partner binding. Both of them, but especially the M65I variant, show altered internal dynamics relative to the wild‐type domain on the μs‐ms timescale, indicated by the ...

Influences of Waste Concrete Powder on the Strength Development and Hydration Products of Mortar Containing Fly Ash

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2022
During recycling waste concrete, a large amount of waste concrete powder (WCP) is generated. However, efficient utilization of WCP remains an unresolved issue.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

An In vivo Comparison of Biomimetic vs. Traditional Skin Moisturization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The aim of this study was to determine whether a biomimetic cream can deliver superior moisturisation to the skin of human volunteers aged over 60, compared to the effects of a conventional moisturiser containing high levels of petrolatum and mineral oil.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

Welan gum retards the hydration of calcium sulfoaluminate

open access: yes, 2017
This paper illustrates the retarding effects of welan gum on the hydration of C4A3$ both in the absence and presence of gypsum. By using the methods of isothermal calorimetry, X-ray diffractometry, mercury instruction porosimetry, thermogravimetry and ...

Hyperosmotic stress‐induced redistribution of pre‐mRNA cleavage factor I subunits is associated with shifts in alternative polyadenylation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Hyperosmotic stress triggers the relocation of the CFIm complex from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. This shift creates a nuclear ‘stoichiometric bottleneck’, limiting CFIm availability for mRNA processing. Consequently, specific mRNAs like NUDT21 and DICER1 undergo targeted 3′UTR shortening, demonstrating how spatial protein dynamics drive rapid ...

Effects of Water-to-Cement Ratios on the Properties of Magnesium Potassium Phosphate Cement Prepared with Lithium-Extracted Magnesium Residue

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Salt lake magnesium phosphate cement (SLMKPC) was prepared by mixing potassium dihydrogen phosphate (KH2PO4) with lithium-extracted magnesium residue (MR).
