A new hydraulic conductivity model of frozen soil considering the hysteresis effect based on fractal theory

open access: yesGeoderma
The hydraulic conductivity of frozen soil is crucial for predicting water migration and frozen heave. Many models have been proposed to estimate the hydraulic conductivity, which involves factors such as unfrozen water content, specific surface area ...

Compacted sand-bentonite mixtures for hydraulic containment liners [PDF]

open access: yesSongklanakarin Journal of Science and Technology (SJST), 2005
Sand is a pervious material in nature. Mixing sand with appropriate bentonite contents yields sandbentonite mixtures having low hydraulic conductivity that can be used as hydraulic containment liners.

Impact of spatially varying hydraulic conductivities on tumor interstitial fluid pressure distribution

open access: yesInformatics in Medicine Unlocked, 2019
This work deals with numerical computation of the interstitial fluid pressure distribution for various synthetic tumor configurations in two spatial dimensions. In order to attend a reasonable degree of realism, we also consider asymmetric configurations

Predicting the Saturated Hydraulic Conductivity of Clayey Soils and Clayey or Silty Sands

open access: yesGeosciences, 2020
Predictive models able to provide a reliable estimate of hydraulic conductivity can be useful in various geotechnical applications. Since most of the existing predictive methods for saturated hydraulic conductivity estimation are valid only for a limited

Two‐Dimensional Materials as a Multiproperty Sensing Platform

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Various sensing modalities enabled and/or enhanced by two‐dimensional (2D) materials are reviewed. The domains considered for sensing include: 1) optoelectronics, 2) quantum defects, 3) scanning probe microscopy, 4) nanomechanics, and 5) bio‐ and chemosensing.

Reconfigurable Magnetic Soft Microrobot for Acoustically Triggered Targeted Bacterial Sterilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable magnetic soft microrobots integrate in situ‐grown piezoelectric zinc oxide nanorods that produce reactive oxygen species upon acoustic excitation. Combining magnetically guided transport with thermally induced planar reconfiguration, the microrobots achieve targeted delivery and enhanced bacterial sterilization through efficient on ...

Consequences of Electromagnetic Stimulation on Hydraulic Conductivity of Soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Hydraulic conductivity is a measure of the rate at which water flows through porous media. Because of the dipole properties of water molecules, any electric field can affect hydraulic conductivity.

Statistical Model Development for Estimating Soil Hydraulic Conductivity Through On-Site Investigations

open access: yesHydrology
In arid regions, irrigated agriculture is mainly dependent on groundwater. In Pakistan, 73% of agricultural land is directly or indirectly irrigated through groundwater.

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

Saturated hydraulic conductivity determined by on ground mono-offset Ground-Penetrating Radar inside a single ring infiltrometer

open access: yes, 2013
In this study we show how to use GPR data acquired along the infiltration of water inside a single ring infiltrometer to inverse the saturated hydraulic conductivity. We used Hydrus-1D to simulate the water infiltration.
