Advances in Electroactive Liquid Crystal Elastomers for Intelligent Robotics and Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Electroactive liquid crystal elastomers (eLCEs) integrate molecular anisotropy with electrical functionality to enable programmable actuation and reconfigurable electronics. This review classifies eLCEs into robotic actuators and adaptive electronics, summarizes key actuation mechanisms, and highlights fabrication strategies that bridge materials to ...

Electrohydraulic Folding Ring Actuators for Radially Contracting Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents an Electrohydraulic Folding Ring Actuator that combines high‐performance electrohydraulic actuation with origami‐inspired folding geometry to achieve constricting radial actuation. This integration yields significant inner lumen constriction, alongside a gripping force capable of holding objects exceeding four times the actuator's ...

An Investigation of Energy Consumption Characteristics of the Pump-Control System for Electric Excavator Arms

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The conventional hydraulic system of excavators suffers from significant valve throttling losses and inadequate matching between the hydraulic power source and the load, which substantially impact the system’s overall energy consumption and severely ...

NITROGENING HYDRAULIC CYLINDER RODS

open access: yesEurasian Physical Technical Journal, 2020
The paper considers the method of ion-plasma nitriding of polished rods of hydraulic cylinders. With ion nitriding, the surface hardening of parts is most pronounced. This is due to the fact that the surface layer of the part does not exceed 20 nm, that is, it is a nanostructure.

A Compact Hollow Fiber Electrode Assembly Architecture for Continuous Electrochemical Marine Carbon Dioxide Removal

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
A coaxial, membrane‐integrated hollow fiber electrode assembly (HFEA) is developed for continuous marine carbon mineralization. By utilizing a sub‐millimeter inter‐electrode gap, the HFEA minimizes Ohmic losses, achieving 50% energy reduction and over 85% DIC removal.

Optimum pressure distributions of hydraulic cylinder seals

open access: yes, 1981
The paper describes a project dealing with the problem of minimizing power losses in hydraulic components with elastic seal elements. Piston seals and piston rod seals of a hydraulic cylinder with a moving cylinder tube are analyzed.

Modeling the separation of water‐in‐oil emulsions in continuously fed gravity settlers using millifluidic experiments

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Emulsion separation remains a persistent challenge in chemical and process industries due to the metastable nature of dispersed droplets. In gravity separators, the overall separation rate is governed by the formation of a densely packed zone (DPZ) of deforming and coalescing droplets that mediates between the dispersed and continuous phases ...
