Increasing the Reuse Potential of High‐Strength Steels by Extending the Fatigue Life through Surface Treatments

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
Surface reconditioning through mechanical and electrochemical polishing is shown to extend the fatigue life of predamaged 42CrMo4 steel by over 12 times. By removing ≈100 μm of surface material, surface‐driven fatigue damage is mitigated. This study introduces a reuse potential metric to evaluate fatigue recovery and support sustainable steel reuse. Press Hardening for Sustainable Lightweight Chassis Design in Heavy‐Duty Vehicles: A Material Performance and Life Cycle Assessment Approach

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The article explores how high‐strength steels and press hardening revolutionize lightweight chassis design for heavy‐duty vehicles. It reveals that press hardened steels combined with shot peening can cut weight by up to 34% and reduce environmental impact by 21%–32%.

Analyses of the Deformability and Chemistry of Non‐Metallic Inclusions in QT Steels With Increased Recycling‐Induced Tramp Element Content

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This work uses high‐temperature dilatometry to examine how the tramp elements Cu, Ni, and Sn affect the deformability of non‐metallic inclusions and matrix in quench‐and‐temper steel. Mg‐bearing inclusions deform less than Mg‐free ones. Copper lowers formability. Nickel increases deformability.

Crash Behavior of DP800–DP1000 Advanced High‐Strength Steel’s Dissimilar Resistance Spot Welded Joints Under Quasi‐static and High Strain Rates

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
The high‐strain‐rate behavior of resistance spot‐welded DP800–DP1000 joints is investigated. Results show that microstructural gradients across BM–HAZ–FZ govern hardness, strain rate sensitivity, and failure modes. While strength increases with strain rate, energy absorption is controlled by ductility, with DP800–DP800 joints showing superior ...

Perfluorohexanone for Clean Fire Suppression: Mechanisms, System Design, Applications, and Future Directions

open access: yesSafety Science and Technology, EarlyView.
Driven by halon and high GWP agent phase out, perfluorohexanone is increasingly deployed in enclosures such as data centers, marine machinery spaces, and industrial process lines. This review summarizes application performance, discharge and distribution design, material compatibility, and byproduct control and maps practical gaps for large volume and ...
