Multimaterial Approach to Improve the Mechanical Properties of a Novel Modified Auxetic Reentrant Honeycomb Structure

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A multimaterial approach is introduced to improve upon auxetic structures by combining two different polymers into the same reentrant honeycomb structure via additive manufacturing. The deformation behavior as well as the resulting Poisson's ratio are thereby improved significantly.

Hydraulic Fracturing of Jointed Formations [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of International Meeting on Petroleum Engineering, 1986
ABSTRACT Measured by volume, North America's largest hydraulic fracturing operations have been conducted at Fenton Hill, New Mexico to create geothermal energy reservoirs. In the largest operation 21,000 m of water were injected into jointed granitic rock at a depth of 3.5 km. Microearthquakes induced by this injection were measured with

On the Deformation Behavior of Metastable CrMnNi Steels Processed by Directed Energy Deposition in Different Temperature Regimes

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
In the present study, metastable CrMnNi steels with varying chemical compositions and a concomitantly altered stacking fault energy are processed via directed energy deposition and afterwards tested via tensile tests at different temperatures. The present study shows the influence of the manufacturing process on the elemental deformation mechanisms for

Hydraulic fracturing of rock-fill dam

open access: yesInternational Journal of Multiphysics, 2016
The condition in which hydraulic fracturing in core of earth-rock fill dam maybe induced, the mechanism by which the reason of hydraulic fracturing canbe explained, and the failure criterion by which the occurrence of hydraulicfracturing can be ...

Effect of Copper Content on the Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of As‐Cast Refractory MoNbTi Multiprincipal Element Alloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Copper addition profoundly impacts MoNbTi multiprincipal element alloys. This study reveals copper's dual role, promoting microstructural refinement and strengthening intermetallics at optimal concentrations. An ideal copper content significantly boosts hardness and compressive strength, achieving superior mechanical performance.

Damage response and influencing factors of plastic damage caused by hydraulic fracturing of shale

open access: yesMeitan kexue jishu
Shale reservoir hydraulic fracturing is a complex fluid solid coupling physical process. During fracturing, the infiltration of high-pressure fluid in the wellbore can induce the germination of microcracks in the surrounding rock of the wellbore, thereby

Interference fracturing: Nonuniform distributions of perforation clusters that promote simultaneous growth of multiple hydraulic fractures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
One of the important hurdles in horizontal-well stimulation is the generation of hydraulic fractures (HFs) from all perforation clusters within a given stage, despite the challenges posed by stress shadowing and reservoir variability.

Encapsulating Laser‐Induced Graphene to Preserve its Electrical Properties and Enhance its Mechanical Robustness

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that laser‐induced graphene (LIG) can be encapsulated while preserving its electrical conductivity and enhancing its mechanical properties. Unlike previous encapsulation attempts, the optimal conditions described here result in sheet resistance of ≈2 Ω sq−1, resistance increase of only 5% upon encapsulation, and vastly improved ...
