Radial hydraulic jump occurs in a stilling basin with diverging side walls. Experimental data is used to obtain the free-surface profiles and the floor-pressure profiles within the diverging basin. These profiles are used to develop generalized equations for the effective side wall forces for Froude numbers from 2 to 10.

A predictive mathematical model of a circular hydraulic jump fountain display is presented. Momentum conservation, assuming a linear jump profile, is applied to obtain an equation for the sequent depth ratio for the jump. Assuming the jump length ratio is constant, the model is used to predict the relationship between jet thickness at source, jump ...

This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation on the hydraulic jump on horizontal rough beds. Experiments were carried out to study the effect of bed roughness on both the sequent depth ratio and the roller length. The investigation allowed the writers to positively test the reliability of a new solution of the momentum equation for ...

Turbulent thermohaline hydraulic jumps
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2021Turbulent entrainment properties of thermohaline internal hydraulic jumps in quiescent ambient water are investigated. Underflow and overflow jumps are considered. The study is mainly concerned with thermohaline buoyancy effects on flow development.

It has been shown that the existing definitions of the efficiency of hydraulic jump do not furnish a correct picture of the physical phenomenon. A more rational definition of the efficiency of hydraulic jump on a horizontal floor in a rectangular channel is given by the ratio of the energy actually dissipated in the jump to that required to be ...

Transitional Expanding Hydraulic Jump
Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 2012This note presents the general features of velocity and variation in length scales of the transition expanding jump, free jump, and wall jet in the rectangular horizontal open channel. The experiments were performed for a range of Froude numbers from 2 to 6 and at an abrupt expansion ratio of 2.

The circular hydraulic jump commonly forms on a horizontal plate struck by a vertical jet of liquid. New observations of this phenomenon are described. A previously unreported instability of the jump is examined. This is shown to arise when the local Reynolds number R j just ahead of the jump exceeds a critical value of 147.

This paper presents a study of the submerged hydraulic jump as the case of a plane turbulent wall jet under adverse pressure gradient with backward flow on top. Using the experimental results of the author for the forward flow and those of Liu and Henry for the backward flow, a method has been devised to predict the surface profile, and the fall of the
