On Increasing the Automation Level of Heavy-Duty Hydraulic Manipulators with Condition Monitoring of the Hydraulic System and Energy-Optimised Redundancy Resolution [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Hydraulic manipulators on mobile machines are predominantly used for excavation and lifting applications at construction sites and for heavy-duty material handling in the forest industry due to their superior power-density and rugged nature.

Modeling of transpiration reduction in van Genuchten-Mualem type soils

open access: yes, 2009
We derive an analytic expression for the matric flux potential (M) for van Genuchten-Mualem (VGM) type soils which can also be written in terms of a converging infinite series.

Machine‐Learning Microfluidic Minute‐Scale Microorganism Metrics Monitoring(M6)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT On‐site monitoring of microorganisms remains challenging because of low concentrations, strong background interference, and dynamic aerosol diffusion, particularly for aerosol‐transmitted pathogens. Here, we report a rapid detection platform that integrates a Puri‐focusing microfluidic chip, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), and ...

Machine Learning-Driven Calibration of MODFLOW Models: Comparing Random Forest and XGBoost Approaches

open access: yesGeosciences
The groundwater inverse problem has several challenges such as instability, non-uniqueness, and complexity, especially for heterogeneous aquifers. Solving the inverse problem is the traditional way to calibrate models, but it is both time-consuming and ...

Assessing the contribution of precipitation to urban flood inundation using a hydraulic modelling approach [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Improving the capacity to model urban flood inundation was identified by Wheater (2002) as a key priority within contemporary flood risk science. Although an increasing emphasis has been placed upon urban environments within flood modelling studies ...

Nanoscale Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry for Quantifying Membrane Fouling: Fouling Layer Structure and Chemical Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (Nano SIMS) is established as a powerful analytical tool to visualize and quantify the membrane fouling layers. ABSTRACT Membrane technology has garnered considerable attention for applications in wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Nevertheless, membrane fouling remains a major barrier, yet the lack of

Digital Surface Models for the estimation

open access: yes, 2007
Various applications such as meteorology, climatology or hydrology require information about the soil hydraulic properties over large areas. Microwave radiometry is a promising approach to gather this type of information.

Synchronization‐Dissipation in the Cardiorespiratory System

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
By modeling central nervous coupling and viscoelastic interactions in the cardiorespiratory system we show that synchronization produces a 10% gain in cardiac efficiency in humans. It is surmised that respiratory sinus arrhythmia improves cardiac pumping efficiency by reducing dynamic stress and power dissipation in the pulmonary vasculature.

Microstructure Optimization of Na3SbS4/Na3Zr2Si2PO12 Composite Solid Electrolytes for Improving Cycling Stability in All‐Solid‐State Sodium Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This research demonstrates that incorporating 10 wt.% NASICON‐type Na3Zr2Si2PO12 into Na3SbS4 sulfide electrolytes mitigates interfacial instability and structural defects. The resulting composite enhances ionic conductivity to 3.97 * 10−4 S cm−1 and reduces activation energy.

Advanced Multiscale Modeling for Revealing Anomalous Fluid Transport Induced by Confinement Interfacial Layer Reconstruction in Sub‐10 nm Space

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrating experimental insights with molecular dynamics simulations, we establish an advanced mathematical model for fluids confined in sub‐10‐nm channels, enabling quantitative prediction of interfacial layer thickness and viscosity by accounting for channel material, temperature, and fluid properties.
