Hydraulic Resistance of Ripples

Journal of Hydraulic Engineering, 1988
Experiments were conducted to investigate the division of the total shear stress into a friction loss and a form loss component for flows with ripples on the bed. Four different sizes of glass beads were used as bed material, each representing a different value of the dimensionless variable Ξ.

A generalized hydraulic resistance coefficient

Journal of Engineering Physics, 1979
A generalization of the resistance law for rheologically stationary liquids is considered for flow in tubes and channels of various geometry.

Calculation of Hydraulic Resistance of Vortex Devices

Theoretical Foundations of Chemical Engineering
The design of vortex devices for carrying out various heat and mass transfer and separation processes should ensure the achievement of maximum efficiency with minimum energy costs; therefore, the task of determining their hydraulic resistance is relevant both when developing new devices or modernizing existing technological installations, and when ...

Hydraulic resistance of porous iron

Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics, 1972
1. In experiments conducted under laminar filtration conditions, the coefficient of hydraulic resistance of porous iron made from lamellar particles was found to be 2.74 times that of porous iron produced from spherical particles. 2. In the transition region of flow, the coefficient of hydraulic resistance of porous iron depends on its ...

Hydraulic Resistance: A Measure of Outflow Resistance in Osteonecrosis

1990
Two hydrodynamic findings have dominated recent research and clinical thinking on ischemic necrosis of bone, osteonecrosis. The first of these is an increased resting intraosseous pressure. This intraosseous hypertension is readily detected and has now been demonstrated in a variety of clinical settings.

Hydraulic resistance to emulsion flow

Chemical and Petroleum Engineering, 1983
This article demonstrates how the starting emulsion viscosity can be used to calculate hydraulic resistance. The emulsions for the experiments were prepared by saturating the liquid in an apparatus with a stirrer by a gas or a second liquid (water) acting as the disperse phase.

Hydraulic Resistance And Compliance

1997
Abstract The concept of hydraulic resistance is central in characterizing and designing microfluidic channels in lab-on-a-chip systems. In this chapter we study both fundamental and applied aspects of hydraulic resistance. We also introduce the concept of compliance, i.e. change in volume as a function of pressure, which is the hydraulic

Hydraulic Resistance of Pavement Surfaces

Journal of Transportation Engineering, 1983
The determination of Manning's n as a basic measure of hydraulic resistance in analyzing rainfall runoff from paved surfaces, such as highways, streets, and runways, is investigated. Surface texture measurements central to tire friction studies are speculated to be important in runoff friction as well.

Fire resistant hydraulic fluids

Fire Safety Journal, 1983
In an attempt to select an appropriate fire-resistant hydraulic fluid for use in Naval applications, two approaches were used: (1) development of a shear-resistant, drag-reducing colloid dispersion to determine if it had anti-misting properties, and (2) use of a water-in-oil emulsion loaded to high levels of water.
