Effects of aeration on/off times and hydraulic retention times in an intermittently aerated membrane bioreactor

open access: yesDesalination and Water Treatment, 2016
AbstractIntermittently aerated membrane bioreactor is a process that combines an intermittently aerated bioreactor with a membrane. A membrane bioreactor can achieve complete separation between solids and liquids, and improve nitrogen removal because the reactor contains bacteria relevant to nitrifying and denitrifying.

Aerosol Jet Printing of Benzocyclobutene as a Thermally Stable, Low‐Loss Dielectric for Multilayer Microwave Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Multilayer aerosol jet printed components with a low‐loss, thermally stable dielectric are demonstrated using benzocyclobutene. Ink formulation and in‐line droplet evaporation control support high‐quality, versatile, and stable printing performance. A specialized measurement for low‐loss materials reveals promising microwave properties, which, combined

Hydrogen production in a novel configuration of UASB reactor under different hydraulic retention time

open access: yesDyna, 2018
The aim of this work was to evaluate the production of hydrogen in a conventional and hybrid Upflow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) reactors by modifying the hydraulic retention time (HRT).

A Constraint‐Based Analytical Framework for Design‐Space Analysis and Material Screening of Tubular Multilayer Dielectric Elastomer Pumps for Extracorporeal Circulatory Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A constraint‐based analytical framework maps the coupled effects of material properties, structural parameters, and operating conditions in tubular dielectric elastomer pumps for extracorporeal circulatory applications. The approach defines performance boundaries through mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic constraints and identifies feasible design ...

Synergistic Interfacial Regulation by Nano‐TiO2 and Carboxylated Cellulose Nanofibers for Multiscale Surface Stabilization of Cementitious Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Nano‐TiO2 and carboxylated cellulose nanofibers jointly regulate hydration‐product distribution in cementitious composites. Improved microstructural continuity and refined pore structure accompany enhanced strength and surface stability without a substantial increase in overall hydration.

Multiobjective Codesign Optimization of a Planar Pneumatic Artificial Muscle‐Based Snake‐Like Robot for Enhanced Agility and Energy Efficiency

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A codesign multiobjective optimization framework was developed to enhance the morphology and controller of a snake‐like robot driven by artificial muscles. It improved planar locomotion, agility, and power efficiency. The approach optimized link geometry and controller gains, revealing that shorter muscles near joints and longer linkages maximize ...

Nutrient removal in a constructed wetland treating aquaculture effluent at short hydraulic retention time

open access: yesAquaculture Environment Interactions, 2018
We examined the longitudinal and seasonal removal of dissolved and particulate nutrient components in a free water surface (FWS) constructed wetland treating all the effluent from a commercial recirculating rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss farm.

Liquid Crystalline Elastomers in Soft Robotics: Assessing Promise and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) are programmable soft materials that undergo large, anisotropic deformation in response to external stimuli. Their molecular alignment encodes directional actuation in a monolithic structure, making them long‐standing candidates for soft robotic systems.

EFFECT OF RECYCLE RATIO AND HYDRAULIC RETENTION TIME ON DENITRIFICATION-NITRIFICATION PROCESS

open access: yesJournal of Urban and Environmental Engineering, 2019
In this study, the elimination of nitrogen compounds from is based on nitrifiication and denitrification. Ammonium released from the mineralization of nitrogen-containing organic compounds is oxidized first to nitrite/nitrate in nitrification process. During denitrification, nitrate is reduced to dinitrogen.
