Geometrical effects on performance and inner flow characteristics of a pump-as-turbine: A review

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2020
A pump-as-turbine is a hydraulic machine that can operate as a pump and turbine at the same time. Pump-as-turbine happens to be the most appropriate method for meeting the world’s energy demands, particularly in rural and isolated areas of a country ...

A Methodology for Designing a Fish-Friendly Turbine Rotor Applied to High-Power Generation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Fluid Mechanics, 2023
Most large hydropower facilities employing conventional hydraulic turbines, e.g., Francis, Kaplan, or Bulb turbines, etc., cause significant harm to fish, resulting in high mortality rates, during turbine operation.

Multiobjective Optimal Control of FOPID Controller for Hydraulic Turbine Governing Systems Based on Reinforced Multiobjective Harris Hawks Optimization Coupling with Hybrid Strategies

open access: yesComplex, 2020
The controlling parameter tuning of the hydraulic turbine governing system (HTGS) is always deduced under single operating condition and is not suitable for the changeable operating conditions of the hydraulic turbine.

Influence of Axial Installation Deviation on the Hydraulic Axial Force of the 1000 MW Francis Runner in the Rated Operating Condition

open access: yesEnergies, 2023
To study the influence of the axial installation deviation of the runner on the hydraulic axial force of the 1000 MW Francis turbine unit, geometric models of the full flow passage of the Francis turbine with the runner sinking in the axial direction by ...

Improvement of hydro-turbine draft tube efficiency using vortex generator

open access: yesAdvances in Mechanical Engineering, 2015
Computational fluid dynamics simulation was employed in a hydraulic turbine (from inlet tube to draft tube). The calculated turbine efficiencies were compared with measured results, and the relative error is 1.12%.

Critical Hydraulic Eccentricity Estimation in Vertical Turbine Pump Impeller to Control Vibration

open access: yesInternational Journal of Rotating Machinery, 2021
In many applications, pumps are tested against standard specifications to define the maximum allowable vibration amplitude limits of a pump. It is essential to identify the causes of vibration and methods to attenuate the same to ensure the safe and ...

Effect of the Diameter of Pressure-Balance Pipe on Axial Hydraulic Thrust

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2021
The axial hydraulic thrust has great influence on the safety and stability of a pump turbine. A common way to balance hydraulic thrust is to install a pressure-balance pipe, and the change in pipe diameter is one of the important factors affecting axial ...

Numerical Analysis of the Flow by Using a Free Runner Downstream the Francis Turbine

open access: yesInternational Journal of Turbomachinery, Propulsion and Power, 2023
The current requirements of industrialized countries require the use of as much renewable energy as possible. One significant problem with renewable energy is that the produced power fluctuates.

Double Helix Structure for Stable Flexural Actuation in Soft Robotics

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This work introduces a double‐helical architecture for soft robotic actuators that enhances twisting resistance, increases output force, and minimizes undesired deformation. Actuators driven by shape‐memory alloy wires exhibit a roughly fivefold higher torsional/flexural stiffness ratio and 50% greater force output.

Research on Diaphragm Pump Fault Diagnosis Method Based on Res‐DCB‐Net

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Nonstationary pressure pulsation signals of diaphragm pumps contain strong background noise and coupled characteristics. This makes it challenging to extract incipient fault features and to decouple faults with similar physical mechanisms. To address these limitations, this paper proposes a spatiotemporal fault diagnosis model named Res‐DCB ...
