Reconfigurable Magnetic Soft Microrobot for Acoustically Triggered Targeted Bacterial Sterilization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Reconfigurable magnetic soft microrobots integrate in situ‐grown piezoelectric zinc oxide nanorods that produce reactive oxygen species upon acoustic excitation. Combining magnetically guided transport with thermally induced planar reconfiguration, the microrobots achieve targeted delivery and enhanced bacterial sterilization through efficient on ...

Influence of incubation period on membrane patch color for insoluble contaminant measurement in degraded hydraulic oils

open access: yesFrontiers in Mechanical Engineering
Insoluble contaminants and varnish, resulting from oil degradation byproducts and sometimes depleted additive molecules, are initiated primarily due to thermal stress on the oil.

From Waste to Value: Conversion of Calcium Sulfate to Vaterite via Carbon Capture and Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a new concept for carbon management that relies on the carbonation of industrial gypsum waste and yields phase‐pure vaterite at ambient conditions without any additives. The obtained vaterite is further shown to be a reactive material that develops compressive strength in aqueous suspensions like conventional cements.

Conifers depend on established roots during drought: results from a coupled model of carbon allocation and hydraulics.

open access: yesNew Phytologist, 2019
Trees may survive prolonged droughts by shifting water uptake to reliable water sources, but it is unknown if the dominant mechanism involves activating existing roots, growing new roots during drought, or some combination.

Flood magnitude-frequency and lithologic control on bedrock river incision in post-orogenic terrain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Mixed bedrock-alluvial rivers - bedrock channels lined with a discontinuous alluvial cover - are key agents in the shaping of mountain belt topography by bedrock fluvial incision.

Interconnected Porous Hydrogels with Tunable Anisotropy Through Aqueous Emulsion Bioprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D bioprintable microporous bioink is developed using an aqueous two‐phase system (ATPS) composed of extracellular matrix (ECM) mimetic biopolymers. The ATPS bioink enables the fabrication of interconnected porous architectures with up to 70% porosity, supporting long‐term cell viability and 3D cell alignment, enabling a simultaneous generation of ...

Resistance and reconfiguration of natural flexible submerged vegetation in hydrodynamic river modelling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In-stream submerged macrophytes have a complex morphology and several species are not rigid, but are flexible and reconfigure along with the major flow direction to avoid potential damage at high stream velocities.
