Durene conversion in a methanol‐to‐jet process: Exploring conversion at 150–350°C over different acid catalysts

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract Acid catalyzed conversion of durene by isomerization, disproportionation, and transalkylation is of interest to the development of a methanol‐to‐jet process to reduce the amount of durene in the kerosene. It was of interest to determine whether durene conversion could be performed at a temperature lower than 350°C.

Production of middle distillates through olefin oligomerization using ZSM‐5 as a catalyst

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract The global transportation sector relies heavily on gasoline (C5–C12) and diesel (C11–C24), which together account for approximately 60% of its energy needs. Driven by rapid industrialization and urbanization, diesel consumption is outpacing gasoline, with projections estimating global demand by 2035 at 27 million barrels per day for gasoline ...

Practical Investigation of Single Cylinder Spark Ignition Engine Performance Operated With Various Hydrocarbon Fuels and Hydrogen

open access: yesJournal of Engineering and Sustainable Development, 2010
Hydrogen, natural gas, and liquefied petroleum gas are the most important alternative fuels for gasoline in spark-ignition engines, for many reasons, such as the large world reserve of these gases, high heating value, high octane number, low emissions ...

Effect of different flue gas recirculation rates on low‐NOx combustion characteristics: A numerical simulation based on the combustion process of a gas boiler

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Abstract NOx emissions from gas boilers severely impact the environment, and flue gas recirculation (FGR) technology can effectively reduce such emissions, yet the effects of different FGR rates on combustion performance and NOx formation remain unclear. This study thus used numerical simulation (via ANSYS Fluent, adopting the realizable k‐ε turbulence

Data‐driven simulation of crude distillation using Aspen HYSYS and comparative machine learning models

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
Integrated Aspen HYSYS–machine learning framework for predicting product yields and quality variables. Abstract Crude oil refining is a complex process requiring precise modelling to optimize yield, quality, and efficiency. This study integrates Aspen HYSYS® simulations with machine learning techniques to develop predictive models for key refinery ...

Emissions of nitrogen oxides from an experimental hydrogen-fueled gas turbine combustor [PDF]

open access: yes
The effect of operating variables of a hydrogen fueled combustor on exhaust concentrations of total oxides of nitrogen was determined at inlet-air temperature levels up to 810 K, pressure of 414,000N/sa m, and reference velocity of 21.3 m/sec.

Beyond hydrogen: Process design of a biogas steam reformer for Fischer–Tropsch synthesis

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
The effect of pressure and steam to carbon ratio on carbon conversion. Abstract We present an analysis of a pilot‐scale multi‐tubular biogas steam reforming reactor, part of a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) development project in Brazil. The novelty of this work is the application of a new, validated power law kinetic model, specifically developed for
