Bioactivation of halogenated hydrocarbons

Journal of Toxicology: Clinical Toxicology, 1982
Halogenated hydrocarbons are an economically and toxicologically important group of chemicals. These compounds may produce toxic effects after metabolism to stable, but toxic, products or to reactive, electrophilic intermediates. The biotransformation reaction may involve oxidative or reductive reactions or may proceed with no change in oxidation state.

DNA adducts of halogenated hydrocarbons

Journal of Cancer Research and Clinical Oncology, 1986
Although formation of DNA adducts has been postulated for several halomethanes, no chemical identification of such adducts has been performed so far. There is, however, evidence that methyl chloride does not act biologically as a DNA methylating agent. 1,2-Dichloroethane and 1,2-dibromoethane are activated through conjugation with glutathione. There is

Halogened hydrocarbons – current trends

Physical Sciences Reviews, 2020
AbstractCurrent trends in industrial synthesis of selected halogened hydrocarbons (HHCs) were presented in detail. Special emphasis was put on the most popular compounds, such as chloromethanes (CH3Cl, CH2Cl2, CHCl3, CCl4), chloroethene (vinyl chloride H2C = CHCl), chlorobenzene, 1-4-dichlorbenzene and epichlorohydrin.

Biogeochemistry of Halogenated Hydrocarbons

2007
This chapter will describe the widespread occurrence of halogenated hydrocarbons, interpret their distribution and biogeochemical cycling in light of natural and anthropogenic sources, biotic and abiotic reactivity, and prevailing cycling mechanisms. Specific emphasis will be placed on the potential role of biotic and abiotic transformation reactions ...
