Interaction of Iodine with Aromatic Hydrocarbons [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 1949
A RECENT communication by Bayliss1, commenting upon the spectroscopic evidence for specific, 'chemical' interaction between iodine and benzene obtained by us2, quite properly includes the remark that such spectroscopic evidence should be "interpreted with caution", and he advanced a formula for the shift of the ultra-violet absorption band of iodine ...

Ultrasonic acceleration of iodination of unactivated aliphatic hydrocarbons

open access: yesUltrasonics Sonochemistry, 2002
Iodination of unactivated aliphatic hydrocarbons with iodoform (CHI3) and solid NaOH were greatly accelerated under ultrasonic irradiation. The mechanism of the sonochemical acceleration was studied.

Iterative Synthesis of Pentacene Derivatives with Continuous Boron–Oxygen Bonds

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
An iterative synthetic strategy enables the controlled introduction of continuous multiple B–O bonds at the zigzag edge of acenes. A simple two‐step cycle—ipso iodination and Suzuki cross‐coupling/condensation—efficiently constructs BO‐acenes ranging from naphthalene to pentacene.

Ring‐Opening Arylation of Cyclic Diaryliodoniums via Cyclic Triaryliodanes as Aryne Precursors and Dynamic Aryl Reservoirs

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Cyclic diaryliodonium salts engage aryl Grignard reagents to trigger a self‐propagating aryne–arylation cycle. Transient cyclic triaryliodanes serve as aryne precursors and dynamic aryl reservoirs, delivering iodine‐capped teraryls with predominant meta‐selectivity. The preserved C─I bond enables outward π‐extension or inward recyclization.
