Prospecting for electrochemically-active hydrocarbon degrading microorganisms for use in bioelectrochemical remediation of petroleum hydrocarbons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Petroleum hydrocarbons pollution is commonplace in the environment owing to accidental spillages, leakages and indiscriminate disposal.

Azaporphyrinoid‐Based Photo‐ and Electroactive Architectures for Advanced Functional Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A long‐standing collaboration between the Torres and Guldi groups has yielded diverse azaporphyrinoid‐based donor‐acceptor nanohybrids with promising applications in solar energy conversion. This conspectus highlights key molecular platforms and structure‐function relationships that govern light and charge management, supporting the rational design of ...

Optimising the biopiling of weathered hydrocarbons within a risk management framework - PROMISE. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Thirty years of research into petroleum microbiology and bioremediation have bypassed an important observation – that many hydrocarbon contaminated sites posing potential risks to human health harbour weathered, ‘mid-distillate’ or heavy oils (Pollard,

Co-acclimation of bacterial communities under stresses of hydrocarbons with different structures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Crude oil is a complex mixture of hydrocarbons with different structures; its components vary in bioavailability and toxicity. It is important to understand how bacterial communities response to different hydrocarbons and their co-acclimation in the ...

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Microbial degradation of petroleum hydrocarbons: Technology and mechanism

open access: yes, 2019
The petrochemical industry has received considerable attention from many sectors in our society. Petroleum spill has been frequently reported due to the lack of appropriate protocols during exploration, refining, transportation, and storage.

One‐Dimensional Materials Supported in Two‐Dimensional Van der Waals Metal–Organic Frameworks with Optical Anisotropy Switching via Twist‐Engineering

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We introduce a molecular strategy to assemble one‐dimensional (1D) materials into two‐dimensional (2D) van der Waals metal–organic frameworks (MOFs). Crystals of [FeX(pzX)(bpy)] (X = Cl, F) form anisotropic 2D layers that can be mechanically exfoliated into thin sheets.

Probabilistic prediction of permeability damage in waterflooding using gaussian process regression

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering
Waterflooding represents one of the most extensively employed techniques for secondary oil recovery, where water is injected into reservoirs to displace oil toward production wells and enhance hydrocarbon recovery.
