Yap is required for ependymal integrity and is suppressed in LPA-induced hydrocephalus

open access: yesNature Communications, 2016
Timely generation and normal maturation of ependymal cells along the aqueduct are critical for preventing physical blockage between the third and fourth ventricles and the development of fetal non-communicating hydrocephalus.

The Expanding Role of Gene Sequencing in Shaping Fetal Therapies: Clinical and Ethical Considerations

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In utero interventions are transformative in addressing genetic and anatomic conditions during fetal development. Next generation sequencing enables early genetic testing, playing a pivotal role in prenatal decision‐making by supporting risk stratification, precise and timely diagnosis, which directly informs eligibility for fetal surgical and

MR Elastography Demonstrates Increased Brain Stiffness in Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Neuroradiology, 2016
The authors performed MR elastography on 10 patients with normal pressure hydrocephalus and 21 age- and sex-matched volunteers. Shear waves with 60-Hz vibration frequency were transmitted to the brain by a pillow-like passive driver. Significant increase

Prenatal Exome Sequencing Analysis in Fetuses With Structural Anomalies: A Multicenter Prospective Cohort Study With Practical Implications

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To evaluate the diagnostic value of prenatal exome sequencing (ES) integrated with copy number variant (CNV) and single nucleotide variant (SNV) analysis (ES‐CNV/SNV) in fetuses with structural anomalies following negative chromosomal microarray analysis (CMA) and karyotyping, and to delineate the practical challenges encountered ...

Individualized retrograde endoscopic transoccipital-fourth ventricular-midbrain aqueduct to third and lateral ventriculoperitoneal shunt for complex multilocular hydrocephalus with isolated fourth ventricle: a case report

open access: yesFrontiers in Medicine
Hydrocephalus is a condition frequently encountered in neurosurgery. An isolated fourth ventricle represents one of the most challenging forms of hydrocephalus.

Loss of Mpdz impairs ependymal cell integrity leading to perinatal‐onset hydrocephalus in mice

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2017
Hydrocephalus is a common congenital anomaly. LCAM1 and MPDZ (MUPP1) are the only known human gene loci associated with non‐syndromic hydrocephalus. To investigate functions of the tight junction‐associated protein Mpdz, we generated mouse models. Global

Patient‐Reported Outcome Measures in Fetal Medicine: A Pilot Feasibility Study

open access: yesPrenatal Diagnosis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective A core set of generic Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) was recently developed to collect information from patients about their health status and quality of life. This study aims to: (1) identify relevant Patient Reported Outcome Measures (PROMs) from this core set for parents facing a fetal anomaly diagnosis and determine ...

Obstruction caused by suprasellar cisterna arachnoid cyst expansion after ventriculoperitoneal shunt in children with hydrocephalus

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
This article focuses on four cases of hydrocephalus after ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt in our center from 2016 to 2021. Imaging follow‐up showed that the secondary suprasellar cisterna arachnoid cyst was enlarged and then formed obstructive hydrocephalus. The clinical symptoms were relieved after a suprasellar cisterna cyst stomy.

Neuropathological events in an animal model resembling human fetal post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Introduction: In premature newborns, intraventricular hemorrhages (IVH) probably trigger the disruption of the neurogenic ventricular zone. Most of the cases with severe IVH develop post-hemorrhagic hydrocephalus (PHH).
