Neuroimaging of Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus and Hydrocephalus

Neurologic Clinics, 2020
Since the clinical syndrome of progressive gait disturbance, urinary incontinence, and dementia in the setting of occult hydrocephalus responsive to cerebrospinal fuid (CSF) shunting was first reported in 1965, the existence of a potentially reversible cause for a form of a dementia illness has generated extensive clinical research and numerous ...

Posttraumatic Hydrocephalus

Neurosurgery, 1984
Abstract Posttraumatic hydrocephalus is a treatable complication of head injury and can present with several different clinical syndromes. The Physics of Hydrocephalus

Pediatric Neurosurgery, 2009
This article reviews our previous work on the dynamics of the intracranial cavity and presents new clinically relevant results about hydrocephalus that can be gained from this approach. Simulations based on fluid dynamics and poroelasticity theory are used to predict CSF flow, pressures and brain tissue movement in normal subjects.

The Child with Hydrocephalus

AJN, American Journal of Nursing, 1973
Hydrocephalus, according to Matson, is a pathological condition with many variations. The amount of cerebrospinal fluid, however, is always increased and the cerebrospinal fluid pathways are always dilated. Hydrocephalus may occur at any period of life and may be due to a number of causes: congenital, neoplastic, infectious, traumatic, operative(1 ...

The neuropsychology of hydrocephalus

Archives of Clinical Neuropsychology, 1988
The relationship between neuropsychological impairment and hydrocephalus is reviewed and three case studies presented. Current brain imaging technology provides a method for detailed quantification of ventricular expansion and alteration or loss of cortical tissue in hydrocephalus.

Hydrocephalus in the Adult

JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1966
Hydrocephalus in the adult may present symptoms of chronic headache, gait disturbance, dementia, or any combination of these symptoms. All known causes of hydrocephalus are represented in cases of adult onset and show the same clinical syndromes. Clinical features, cerebrospinal fluid examination, and electroencephalogram are not reliable means of ...

The Treatment of Hydrocephalus

Neurosurgery Clinics of North America, 1993
Hydrocephalus is one of the most commonly encountered clinical problems in neurosurgery and accompanies most cases of myelomeningocele. Spinal fluid shunting to the peritoneal cavity is the most common surgery performed for hydrocephalus, and there is a vast array of valve systems and hardware available.

Hydrocephalus treatment in children: long-term outcome in 975 consecutive patients.

Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics, 2017
OBJECTIVE Hydrocephalus remains one of the more common pathologies managed in pediatric neurosurgical units. Endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) has an advantage over ventriculoperitoneal shunting as it enables patients to remain device free. Multiple
