Chlorthalidone Versus Hydrochlorothiazide

Annals of Internal Medicine, 2013
TO THE EDITOR: Dhalla and colleagues state, "As typically prescribed, chlorthalidone in older adults was not associated with fewer adverse cardiovascular events or deaths than hydrochlorothiazide. However, it was associated with a greater incidence of electrolyte abnormalities, particularly hypokalemia." This observational cohort study is contrary to a

Valsartan/Hydrochlorothiazide

Drugs, 1999
Valsartan/hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) combines an angiotensin II AT1 receptor blocker with a thiazide diuretic to produce additive blood pressure reductions without major effects on heart rate. HCTZ did not significantly alter valsartan pharmacokinetics; during combination therapy, HCTZ pharmacokinetics differed from those seen with HCTZ monotherapy. In

Antihypertensive and Metabolic Effects of Hydrochlorothiazide, Amiloride—Hydrochlorothiazide, and Timolol

The Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1983
Abstract: The antihypertensive and metabolic effects of hydrochlorothiazide and amiloride—hydrochlorothiazide combination, alone and in combination with timolol, were studied in 26 patients with mild to moderately severe uncomplicated essential hypertension.

Ticrynafen and hydrochlorothiazide in hypertension

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1978
In a double‐blind study, 28 patients having mild to moderate essential hypertension were randomly assigned to a 6‐week regimen of ticrynafen, hydrochlorothiazide, or placebo. Blood pressure fell after ticrynafen and hydrochlorothiazide. Serum uric acid fell strikingly with ticrynafen whereas it rose with hydrochlorothiazide.

Placental Transfer of Hydrochlorothiazide

Gynecologic and Obstetric Investigation, 1980
The concentrations of hydrochlorothiazide (HCT) in maternal and umbilical cord plasma and in amniotic fluid were determined at partus in 10 pregnancies. The levels of HCT in umbilical cord plasma were 0.1--0.8 of that in maternal plasma. The concentrations of the diuretic in amniotic fluid were up to 5 and 19 times higher than in maternal and umbilical

Pharmacokinetics of hydrochlorothiazide in man

European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology, 1977
Hydrochlorothiazide (hct) was administered orally in four different doses (12.5, 25, 50 and 75 mg), to eight healthy volunteers. Plasma and urine concentrations of hct were determined by GLC. Maximal plasma levels were found at 1.5–5 h, and averaged 70, 142, 260 and 376 ng × ml−1 respectively.

Hydrochlorothiazide and spironolactone in hypertension

Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics, 1979
A double‐blind study of hydrochlorothiazide and spironolactone, alone and in combination, was conducted in 49 patients with mild‐to‐moderate essential hypertension after a 4‐wk placebo washout period. In the whole group mean arterial blood pressure fell to levels of ≤107 mm Hg or declined by more than 15 mm Hg in 78% of the patients after twelve weeks ...
