Hydrocyclone System Design

2021
Once hydrocyclones are designed for given grinding-classification circuits, desliming, dewatering and other purposes, it is necessary to consider all the elements that make up the hydrocyclone system: pulp feeding tank volume and geometry, connecting pipes, pulp distributors and instrumentation.

Phenomenological Hydrocyclone Models

2021
The structural and operational simplicity of a hydrocyclone hides the high complexity of its classification mechanism. Efforts to describe hydrocyclone behavior have led to two types of models: empirical and phenomenological. Empirical models are based on experimental observation of hydrocyclone performance and consist of the statistical correlation of

Hydrocyclones

2015
This chapter gives a brief synopsis of hydrocyclones in theory and in practice, including basic design, characterization of performance, models, scale-up and design, as well as monitoring and control of the equipment. The effect of various operational variables, such as pressure drop, cone angle, cyclone diameter, vortex finder and spigot diameters ...

Notice of Retraction: Simulations of axial-flow hydrocyclone and tangential hydrocyclone

2010 International Conference on Computer Application and System Modeling (ICCASM 2010), 2010
As a kind of high-efficient separation equipment, hydrocyclone has been widely used. In order to improve its performance, the structures of different parts have been optimized in recent years. Especially for the inlet structures, they play an important role in internal flow field and separation efficiency.

Filtering cylindrical–conical hydrocyclone

Particuology, 2019
Abstract Hydrocyclones have versatile applications in various industrial processes. They functionn on the principle of centrifugal separation to remove a dispersed phase (particles or drops) from a continuous phase (fluid). In unconventional filtering hydrocyclones, the separation efficiency and energy costs have been improved by combining filtration

Particle segregation in hydrocyclones

Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration, 1996
Hydrocyclones and other dynamic separators are normally fed with pulps consisting of water and solid particles. The solids usually consist of particles of different sizes, shapes and densities. Except in the special case of monocharacteristic particles, the particles are segregated by these differences in size, shape and density.

Acoustic monitoring of hydrocyclones

Powder Technology, 2002
This paper considers a case study of using non-intrusive passive acoustic sensors for on-line monitoring of hydrocyclone performance. Acoustic emissions generated within a hydrocyclone treating fine silica slurries were collected using a single 190-kHz piezoelectric sensor mounted externally on the conical section of the hydrocyclone. The investigation

Flow predictions within hydrocyclones

Filtration & Separation, 2001
The aim of this article is to illustrate the type of internal flows that can develop within hydrocyclone separators at low and high Reynolds numbers based on the Navier-Stokes equation and the RANS-equation, respectively. The following three examples are used: a 5 mm hydrocyclone; a 76 mm Rietema hydrocyclone; and a 250 mm hydrocyclone with different ...

Hydrocyclone efficiency

1977
The efficiency of a 4 inch hydrocyclone was studied using a suspension of fine silica at pulp. densities of up to 507o solids by weight. The variables manipulated were diameter of the vortex finder, flowrate, percent solids in the feed and cyclone length. Slurry temperature was also measured.

Experimental hydrocyclone roping models

Chemical Engineering Journal, 2000
Abstract Hydrocyclone roping has not been studied and modeled in true grinding circuits. The paper discusses experiments made with a pilot size closed grinding circuit treating 0.5–1.0 t/h crystalline limestone. The equations found in the literature did not all describe roping very well.
