Microbial disinfection of water using hydrodynamic cavitational reactors

Journal of Water Process Engineering, 2021
Abstract Water disinfection is gaining importance with increasing waterborne diseases and associated impacts on human health. An approach based on hydrodynamic cavitation (HC) is highly beneficial for water disinfection. The physical and chemical transformation that occurred during HC is useful for microbial inactivation.

Design of a hydrodynamic cavitating reactor

Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification, 2017
Abstract In the present work, a computational fluid dynamic simulation has been performed to investigate hydrodynamic cavitation in sudden contraction. Hydrodynamic cavition of water, ethyl alcohol and fuel oil have been simulated using commercial CFD soft ware package ANSYS FLUENT 16.A satisfactory match between the simulated data and experimental ...

Engineering design methods for cavitation reactors II: Hydrodynamic cavitation

AIChE Journal, 2000
AbstractThe bubble behavior and hence the pressure generated at the collapse of the cavity for hydrodynamic cavitation depends on the operating conditions and geometry of the mechanical constriction generating cavitation. The effect of operating parameters such as inlet pressure through the system's orifice, initial cavity size, and the indirect effect

Experimental study of cavitation intensity using a novel hydrodynamic cavitation reactor

Journal of Mechanical Science and Technology, 2019
The cavitation intensity of a novel hydrodynamic cavitation reactor (HCR) was experimentally evaluated in terms of the amount of bubble generation and bubble collapse energy. The amount of bubble generation was analyzed by flow visualization using a high-speed camera. The bubble collapse energy was evaluated by calculating the generated thermal energy.

Conceptual design of a novel hydrodynamic cavitation reactor

Chemical Engineering Science, 2007
Abstract Hydrodynamic cavitation has been increasingly used as a substitute to conventional acoustic (or ultrasonic) cavitation for process intensification owing to its easy and efficient operation. In this paper, we have put forth conceptual design of a new kind of hydrodynamic cavitation reactor that uses a converging–diverging nozzle for ...
