A model for deformable roll coating with negative gaps and incompressible compliant layers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
A soft elastohydrodynamic lubrication model is formulated for deformable roll coating involving two contra-rotating rolls, one rigid and the other covered with a compliant layer. Included is a finite-strip model (FSM) for the deformation of the layer and

Stochastic multiscale analysis in hydrodynamic lubrication [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal for Numerical Methods in Engineering, 2017
SummaryA stochastic multiscale analysis framework is developed for hydrodynamic lubrication problems with random surface roughness. The approach is based on a multi‐resolution computational strategy wherein the deterministic solution of the multiscale problem for each random surface realization is achieved through a coarse‐scale analysis with a local ...

Two‐Phase Nanofluid Flow in a Non‐Newtonian Model Past a Deformable Sheet With Magnetized Environmental Effects: Statistical Modeling and ANOVA Analysis

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper presents a comprehensive numerical analysis of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) Casson nanofluid movement over a permeable, linearly stretching sheet, integrating the contributions of non‐uniform heat generation or absorption and chemical interaction.

Hydrodynamic interactions in colloidal ferrofluids: A lattice Boltzmann study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We use lattice Boltzmann simulations, in conjunction with Ewald summation methods, to investigate the role of hydrodynamic interactions in colloidal suspensions of dipolar particles, such as ferrofluids.

Numerical Simulation of the Lubrication Performance of the Stator and Rotor Friction Pair Surface Rhombus-like Texture in Screw Pumps

open access: yesLubricants
To address wear failure in screw pump stator and rotor friction pairs, this study constructed a numerical model of a rhombus-like micro-dimple texture on friction pair surfaces based on the scale structure of rhombus rattlesnakes.

Enhanced Rheological and Filtration Performance of Drilling Fluids Using Fe3O4/Saponin/Cu(II) Nanocomposites: Synthesis, Characterization, and Application

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Drilling fluids used in high‐performance well operations often struggle to maintain rheological stability, colloidal dispersion, and filtration control under harsh downhole conditions. This study engineered a multifunctional Fe3O4@Saponin/Cu(II) nanocomposite to address these challenges.

Proximity effect on hydrodynamic interaction between a sphere and a plane measured by Force Feedback Microscopy at different frequencies

open access: yes, 2015
In this article, we measure the viscous damping $G'',$ and the associated stiffness $G',$ of a liquid flow in sphere-plane geometry in a large frequency range. In this regime, the lubrication approximation is expected to dominate.

Estimation of random bio-hydrodynamic lubrication parameters for joints with phospholipid bilayers [PDF]

open access: yesBulletin of the Polish Academy of Sciences: Technical Sciences, 1921
This paper presents a new form of a mathematical estimation of stochastic bio-hydrodynamic lubrication parameters for real human joint surfaces with phospholipid bilayers.

Design of Experiments‐Based Optimization of Recovered Carbon Black–Reinforced Isobutylene–Isoprene Rubber in Comparison With Conventional Carbon Black Systems

open access: yesJournal of Applied Polymer Science, EarlyView.
Optimized potential of rCB via DOE: recovered carbon black from end‐of‐life tires was assessed as a full substitute for conventional carbon black in IIR composites. DOE and response surface methodology optimized rCB loading, plasticizer, and sulfur contents. Hardness showed linear trends, while rupture energy was nonlinear.

Fish Scales: A Multifunctional Biomaterial from Nature

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Fish scales demonstrate nature's solution to impact protection through overlapping multilayered architecture. This biological design combines mineralized surfaces with collagen networks to achieve both flexibility and fracture resistance. The structural principles inspire advanced protective materials and biomedical implants, where damage tolerance ...
