Study on hydrodynamic performance and CFD simulation of AUV

2017 IEEE International Conference on Information and Automation (ICIA), 2017
For an unmanned marine vehicles, the calculations of its resistance under the water and hydrodynamic coefficients are necessary and important work. For the complexity of the fluid around autonomous underwater vehicles(AUV), the kinematic and dynamic model of underwater vehicles are highly nonlinear and coupled so that the hydrodynamic performance are ...

Prediction on Hydrodynamic Performances of Propeller by OpenFOAM

Volume 5: Polar and Arctic Sciences and Technology; CFD and VIV, 2009
In this paper the flow around a propeller is simulated by open source CFD tool-OpenFOAM. In order to validate the availability of OpenFOAM code in the field of propeller theory, the steady hydrodynamic performances of DTMB P4119 propeller is predicted. The discrete schemes are second order upwind. The grids are generated by GAMBIT software.

Performance and Applications of Hydrodynamic Oscillators

The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 1956
A class of hydrodynamic oscillators is being developed which shows considerable promise for sonic and ultrasonic applications involving large acoustic power requirements. These devices convert liquid flow energy into acoustic energy with conversion efficiencies that can exceed 50% in favorable circumstances.

The Hydrodynamical Performance of Migratory Salmon

Journal of Experimental Biology, 1961
ABSTRACT The annual spawning migration of Pacific Coast salmon up the Columbia and Amur rivers has been analysed as an experiment on the maximum range of an un-refuelled vehicle, since the fish do not eat during this migration. The fuel (primarily fat) available to real fish is compared to that computed for an equivalent rigid vehicle ...

Hydrodynamic performance of algal bioreactors

Photobioreactors are engineered bioreactors employed to cultivate microalgae in a controlled environment (to control external factors and contamination) and achieve a high biomass productivity. There are different types of bioreactors, but the common forms, which are used for algal cultivation, are open ponds, vertical columns photobioreactors (bubble ...

Hydrodynamic Performance Test of a Turbopump Assembly

Transactions of the Korean Society of Mechanical Engineers B, 2008
Abstract Hydrodynamic performance test of a turbopump for a liquid rocket engine is carried out. The turbopump is composed of an oxidizer pump, a fuel pump and a turbine, and the two pumps are driven by the turbine. In the test, water is used for the pumps as working media and air is used for the turbine.

The “Problematic” Hydrodynamic Performance of Gero's Great Barracuda

Nature, 1966
BAINBRIDGE1 rightly questioned Gero's2 data and calculations on the swimming performance of a great barracuda (Sphyraena barracuda (Walbaum)) measured at Bimini, Bahamas, British West Indies, but suspicion was cast on the wrong datum. He doubted the validity of the swimming speed measurement of 12.16 m/sec or 10 body-lengths/sec for a 121.6 cm fish ...

Hydrodynamic optimization of performance of blunt ships

Journal of Hydrodynamics, 2006
Abstract Various research works on hydrodynamic performance of the general streamlined ships in the domain of ship fluid mechanics have been implemented during the past several decades. However, as to those special types of ship, say, the blunt ship, relevant investigative work is never put on the top of the agenda.

Braking Performance of the Hydrodynamic Film Brake

SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989
<div class="htmlview paragraph">A brake has been designed for use on a class 8 tractor trailer which utilizes a hydrodynamic film of fluid between a series of rotors and stators to reduce wear and increase energy rejection capability. The hydrodynamic film brake or HFB was constructed and tested on a brake dynamometer and demonstrated a very low ...
