A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Analysis on the fluid-structure interaction vibration characteristics of the elastic propeller

open access: yesZhongguo Jianchuan Yanjiu, 2020
[Objectives] In the flow field, vibration response characteristics of the elastic propeller are influenced by the interaction of the fluid and structure.[Methods] Based on the CFD/FEM fluid-structure interaction method,ANSYS-CFX modules on the Workbench ...

The hydrodynamic and dynamic motion analysis of a damaged ship [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The hydrodynamic analysis and motion response of a damaged ship requires a novel generalisation of the methodsnormally applied to intact ships or other floating structures. Damaged ship statistics are used to provide likely damage scenarios.

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Performance Evaluation of Submerged Floating Tunnel Subjected to Hydrodynamic and Seismic Excitations

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2017
Submerged floating tunnels (SFTs) are innovative structural solutions to waterway crossings, such as sea-straits, fjords and lakes. As the width and depth of straits increase, the conventional structures such as cable-supported bridges, underground ...

The response of the magnetosphere to the passage of a coronal mass ejection on March 20-21 1990 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
International audienceThe geomagnetic response to the passage of a coronal mass ejection (CME) is studied. The passage of the CME resulted in a storm sudden commencement (SSC) at 2243 UT on March 20 1990 with disturbed magnetic activity during the ...

Inverse Identification of Energy‐Dependent Laser Absorptivity in NiTi Laser Powder‐Bed Fusion via Calibrated Melt Pool Simulation

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined experimental–computational framework identifies energy‐dependent laser absorptivity for NiTi in laser powder‐bed fusion, applicable to conduction and transition modes. Single‐track experiments and thermofluid smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations are coupled through inverse analysis of melt pool geometry.

Hydrodynamics of the escape response in bluegill sunfish,Lepomis macrochirus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 2008
SUMMARYEscape responses of fishes are one of the best characterized vertebrate behaviors, with extensive previous research on both the neural control and biomechanics of startle response performance. However, very little is known about the hydrodynamics of escape responses, despite the fact that understanding fluid flow patterns during the escape is ...

The reproduction of the response of an aircraft panel to turbulent boundary layer excitation in laboratory conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
One important topic in the aeronautic and aerospace industries is the reproduction of random pressure field, with prescribed spatial correlation characteristics, in laboratory conditions.

Human Gut Bacteria and Lipidic Nanoparticles: Particle Composition Predicts Structural Transformation and Bacterial Biocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Lipidic nanoparticles (LNPs) were incubated with 21 gut bacteria frequently associated with the human microbiome. SAXS revealed that ∼75% of tested species induced structural transformations in monoolein LNPs, whereas phytantriol and phospholipid formulations remained unaffected.
