Formation and Characterization of Inkjet-Printed Nanosilver Lines on Plasma-Treated Glass Substrates

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2018
In this study, we investigated geometrical characteristics of the inkjet-printed lines with non-zero receding contact angle (CA) on plasma-treated substrates in terms of various printing variables and analyzed the fluidic behavior and hydrodynamic ...

Characterization of Environmental Nano- and Macrocolloid Particles Extracted from Selected Soils and Biosolids

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Soil Science, 2014
Environmental nanoparticles found in soil systems and biosolids may pose a considerable risk to groundwater quality as contaminant carriers. Little effort has been invested in the characterization of natural nanocolloids compared to corresponding ...

Biosensing System for Concentration Quantification of Magnetically Labeled E. coli in Water Samples

open access: yesSensors, 2018
Bacterial contamination of water sources (e.g., lakes, rivers and springs) from waterborne bacteria is a crucial water safety issue and its prevention is of the utmost significance since it threatens the health and well-being of wildlife, livestock, and ...

An efficient shape parametrisation by free-form deformation enhanced by active subspace for hull hydrodynamic ship design problems in open source environment

open access: yes, 2018
In this contribution, we present the results of the application of a parameter space reduction methodology based on active subspaces to the hull hydrodynamic design problem. Several parametric deformations of an initial hull shape are considered to assess the influence of the shape parameters considered on the hull total drag.

Single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assays for high‐throughput DNA–protein interaction studies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We describe an optimised single‐molecule DNA flow‐stretch assay that visualises DNA–protein interactions in real time. Linear DNA fragments are tethered to a surface and stretched by buffer flow for fluorescence imaging. Using λ and φX174 DNA, this protocol enhances reproducibility and accessibility, providing a versatile approach for studying diverse ...

Study on Heat Generation Mechanisms and Circumferential Temperature Evolution Characteristics of Journal Bearings Under Different Whirl Motion

open access: yesApplied Sciences
To investigate the heat-generation mechanisms of journal bearings under different whirl motion and to clarify the corresponding temperature distribution characteristics, a computational fluid dynamics-based method was developed.

Protocol for quantifying miRNA trafficking across the endosomal membrane

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
An in vitro protocol measures miRNA uptake into endosomes isolated from mammalian cell extracts, which are free of subcellular contaminants. Performed at 37 °C in the presence of ATP, it ensures the import of single‐stranded miRNA into the endosomal lumen.

A Simplified Laminar Flow Model for the Pultrusion of Glass Fiber/Polyethylene Terephthalate Commingled Yarns

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A simplified thermoplastic pultrusion model is developed to predict thermal fields in glass fiber/polyethylene terephthalate (GF/PET) composites with reduced computational cost. By combining effective material homogenization, validation against literature data, and Gaussian‐process‐based optimization, the study reveals how heating limits, pulling speed,

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.

Deconstructing Photospheric Spectral Lines in Solar and Stellar Flares

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
During solar flares, spectral lines formed in the photosphere have been shown to exhibit changes to their profiles despite the challenges of energy transfer to these depths.
