Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Numerical investigation of scour behavior around complex piers under flood conditions
IntroductionLocal scour at bridge piers is a primary cause resulting bridge failure, a risk that is significantly exacerbated under extreme hydrodynamic events such as floods.MethodsThis study presents a numerical investigation of the scour behavior ...

Patterns and Collective Behavior in Granular Media: Theoretical Concepts
Granular materials are ubiquitous in our daily lives. While they have been a subject of intensive engineering research for centuries, in the last decade granular matter attracted significant attention of physicists.

We propose a suture‐complementary approach that integrates optical skin clearing with a strain‐programmable luminescent adhesive patch. Hyaluronic acid promotes transdermal delivery of tartrazine to improve optical clearing and stabilizes its interaction with a photosensitizer. Optical clearing increases the penetration depth of visible light into skin,

The Consequences of the modulation instabilities [PDF]
There are various cases of the development of the modulation instability of intense periodic structures in wave and non-wave media (see, for example [1]). The peculiarity of the modulation instability is the appearance of the perturbation spectrum, which

The stellar mass function and star formation rate-stellar mass relation of galaxies at z ~ 4 - 7
We investigate the evolution of the star formation rate-stellar mass relation (SFR-M*) and Galaxy Stellar Mass Function (GSMF) of z ~ 4-7 galaxies, using cosmological simulations run with the smoothed particle hydrodynamics code P-GADGET3(XXL).

X-rays from the colliding wind binary WR 146 [PDF]
The X-ray emission from the massive binary WR 146R is analysed in the framework of the colliding stellar wind (CSW) picture. The theoretical CSW model spectra match well the shape of the observed X-ray spectrum of WR 146R but they overestimate ...

Bioprosthetic aortic valves have revolutionized the treatment of aortic stenosis, but their durability is limited by structural valve deterioration (SVD). This review focuses on the pericardial tissue at the heart of these valves, examining how its mechanical properties and calcification drive fatigue and failure.

The mechanisms of pedestrian slip on flooring contaminated with solid particles [PDF]
Statistics by the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE) suggest that slips, trips and falls account for up to one in three major workplace accidents. The vast majority of these accidents are the result of contaminant (fluid or solid) within the shoe-floor

A Complexation‐Mediated Diffusion‐Limited Growth (CMDLG) framework is established to rationalize the anisotropic growth of lead‐free perovskites. Integrating coordination chemistry with mass transport kinetics, this study theoretically derives and experimentally validates that stable iodocuprate complexes induce a diffusion‐limited regime.
