Smart, Bio‐Inspired Polymers and Bio‐Based Molecules Modified by Zwitterionic Motifs to Design Next‐Generation Materials for Medical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bio‐based and (semi‐)synthetic zwitterion‐modified novel materials and fully synthetic next‐generation alternatives show the importance of material design for different biomedical applications. The zwitterionic character affects the physiochemical behavior of the material and deepens the understanding of chemical interaction mechanisms within the ...

Discussion on the Non-Linear Stability of Short Hydrodynamic Bearings by Applying Rabinowitsch Fluid Model

open access: yesLubricants
Using the Rabinowitsch fluid model, the effects of dilatant fluids (a non-Newtonian factor less than 0) and pseudo-plastic fluids (a non-Newtonian factor greater than 0) on the non-linear stability of hydrodynamic journal bearings is discussed.

A pure hydrodynamic instability in shear flows and its application to astrophysical accretion disks

open access: yes, 2016
We provide the possible resolution for the century old problem of hydrodynamic shear flows, which are apparently stable in linear analysis but shown to be turbulent in astrophysically observed data and experiments.

Why hyperbolic theories of dissipation cannot be ignored: Comments on a paper by Kostadt and Liu [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Contrary to what is asserted in a recent paper by Kostadt and Liu ("Causality and stability of the relativistic diffusion equation"), experiments can tell apart (and in fact do) hyperbolic theories from parabolic theories of dissipation.

Slight Truncation Changes in Iron Oxide Nanocubes Strongly Affect Their Magnetic Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Subtle variations in nanoparticle morphology can lead to significant changes in functional properties. An automated shape‐fitting method captures minor differences in corner truncation between iron oxide nanocubes of similar sizes synthesized under identical conditions, revealing pronounced disparities in their magnetic and hyperthermia behavior ...

A Surface‐engineered Microfluidic Device for Antibody‐Mediated Negative Selection of High‐Quality Sperm for Assisted Reproduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports a microfluidic device with a functionalized surface utilizing a polyoxazoline coating and covalently immobilized gold nanoparticles and anti‐phosphatidylserine antibody. The device efficiently eliminates pre‐apoptotic and apoptotic spermatozoa and yields sperm with substantially improved quality and low DNA damage, offering a simple ...

The linear stability of dilute particulate rings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Irregular structure in planetary rings is often attributed to the intrinsic instabilities of a homogeneous state undergoing Keplerian shear. Previously these have been analysed with simple hydrodynamic models. We instead employ a kinetic theory, in which

Shaping Ti3C2 MXene Nanospheres for Precision Near‐Infrared Photothermal Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this study, we report producing spherical MXenes via fs laser fragmentation of Ti3C2 flakes in liquid medium. The nanoparticles demonstrated pronounced light absorption and high photothermal conversion efficiencies of 68% and 63% under heating with NIR‐I and NIR‐II lasers, respectively.

Hydrodynamic Optimization and Motion Stability Enhancement of Underwater Glider Combining CFD and MOPSO

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
This study investigated the motion stability of underwater gliders and optimized their shape to enhance hydrodynamic performance. Given the critical role of stability in underwater operations, a multi-objective optimization framework was developed ...

On-Bottom Stability Analysis of Subsea Pipelines Based on DNVGL RP F109

open access: yesKapal, 2022
Subsea pipeline must be design as stable as possible to prevent failure, considering the external forces from current, wave and soil conditions. Based on these problems, the on-bottom stability analysis needs to be considered in the design of the subsea ...
