Surface Roughness and Hydrodynamic Boundary Conditions [PDF]
We report results of investigations of a high-speed drainage of thin aqueous films squeezed between randomly nanorough surfaces. A significant decrease in hydrodynamic resistance force as compared with predicted by Taylor's equation is observed. However,

Hydrodynamic Kelvin–Helmholtz instability on metallic surface
Kelvin–Helmholtz instability on metallic surface is relevant to intense oblique impact in many physical processes such as explosive welding, Inertial Confinement Fusion and planetary impact events.

The Surface Layers Dual to Hydrodynamic Boundaries [PDF]
The AdS/hydrodynamics correspondence provides a 1-1 map between large wavelength features of AdS black branes and conformal fluid flows. In this note we consider boundaries between nonrelativistic flows, applying the usual boundary conditions for viscous

Irreversible hydrodynamic trapping by surface rollers [PDF]
A microscopic colloidal roller propelling along a flat rigid surface can irreversibly trap and transport passive cargo through cross-streamline migration induced by steric interaction between the cargo and the interface.

Hydrodynamics of Sperm Cells near Surfaces [PDF]
Sperm are propelled by an actively beating tail, and display a wide variety of swimming patterns. When confined between two parallel walls, sperm swim either in circles or on curvilinear trajectories close to the walls. We employ mesoscale hydrodynamics simulations in combination with a mechanical sperm model to study the swimming behavior near walls ...

Hydrodynamic Attraction of Swimming Microorganisms by Surfaces [PDF]
Cells swimming in confined environments are attracted by surfaces. We measure the steady-state distribution of smooth-swimming bacteria (Escherichia coli) between two glass plates. In agreement with earlier studies, we find a strong increase of the cell concentration at the boundaries.

Surface Roughness and Effective Stick-Slip Motion [PDF]
The effect of random surface roughness on hydrodynamics of viscous incompressible liquid is discussed. Roughness-driven contributions to hydrodynamic flows, energy dissipation, and friction force are calculated in a wide range of parameters.

This article considers the problem of determining the hydrodynamic forces acting on the body in an unsteady flow on a distant control surface. General formulas for calculating hydrodynamic forces in the three- and two-dimensional cases were derived.
