Change in Cavitation Regime on NACA0015 Hydrofoil by Heating the Hydrofoil Surface

Journal of Fluids Engineering, 2023
AbstractAn experimental study of cavitating flow on a heated NACA0015 hydrofoil was conducted in a cavitation tunnel to investigate the influence of the hydrofoil surface temperature on the cavitating flow. The cavitation behavior under different heating conditions was examined using high-speed video, and an image processing method was used to obtain ...

Tandem hydrofoil system

Ocean Engineering, 2001
A tandem hydrofoil system enables an improvement in the lift-drag ratio of a high-speed ship. The conditions for favorable application of this type of foil structure are determined. The data on hydrofoil boats using a tandem system are presented. The problem of the stability of the vertical plane motion of a hydrofoil with bow and stern foils is ...

HYDROFOILS FOR NAVAL PURPOSES

Naval Engineers Journal, 1963
<div class="htmlview paragraph">The history of small combatant naval craft is briefly reviewed and today's need for such craft is shown. The principal use of hydrofoil craft is in anti-submarine operations, landing craft, and minesweeping. Principal characteristics are given for the PC(H)-1, AGE(H), LCVP(H), and LVHX-1.</div>

Hydrofoil Craft Drag Polar

Journal of Hydronautics, 1980
Adaptation of the friction and wave drag components to the classic aerodynamic drag polar are shown with accommodation for the weight/center-of-gravity envelope. The parametric forms of the drag, power, and specific range and endurance curves are shown and related to the traditional dimensional forms.

HYCAT - Hybrid Hydrofoil Catamaran concept

6th Marine Systems Conference, 1981
Abstract A hybrid marine vehicle concept has been developed which utilizes a combination of static and dynamic support. This concept, termed HYCAT † for HYdrofoil CATamaran, combines a planing catamaran hull with two fully submerged hydrofoils mounted in tandem fore and aft.

Hybrid Hydrofoil Technology Applications

Naval Engineers Journal, 1994
ABSTRACTThe purpose of this paper is to provide a review of hybrid hydrofoil vehicle technology and feasibility designs, both military and commercial, that have been explored during the last several decades.A hybrid hydrofoil consists of a conventional monohull form with the addition of a long, slender, single strut and lower body added to its keel ...

Hydrofoil Craft Performance Calculation

Naval Engineers Journal, 1990
ABSTRACTNaval and commercial hydrofoil craft have become commonplace. While articles on hydrofoil performance and hydrofoil craft operations have been published, there is relatively little available material on the calculation of hydrofoil craft take off. This paper summarizes ongoing work at the University of New Orleans to develop the Soviet approach

A Sailing Hydrofoil Development

Marine Technology and SNAME News, 1968
Abstract A simple means of controlling vertical stability and pitchpole moment in sail-powered hydrofoil craft is described. The system is self-stabilizing, requires no moving parts, and adds no additional operations to normal small-craft sailing technique.
