Anion‐Bridged Dual Hydrogen Bond Enabled Concerted Addition of Phenol to Glycal

open access: yesAdvanced Science
A noncovalent organocatalytic concerted addition of phenol to glycal is developed for the stereoselective and regioselective construction of biologically important phenolic 2‐deoxyglycosides, featuring wide substrate tolerance.

Improvement of the Hydrogen-Storage Properties of Mg by Adding a Polymer CMC via Transformation-Involving Milling

open access: yesMedžiagotyra, 2019
The addition of CMC (Carboxymethylcellulose, Sodium Salt) may improve the hydrogen uptake-release properties of Mg since it has a relatively low melting point and the melting of CMC during transformation-involving milling may make the milled samples be ...

Gaseous Lubricity Additives for Hydrogen Gas

open access: yesTribology Transactions
There is great interest in using hydrogen as a gaseous fuel in combustion engines to eliminate CO2 emissions.  Unfortunately, hydrogen gas is a poor lubricant for most engineering metals and an effective lubrication solution for pumping and injecting hydrogen is required.

Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Evidence for hydrogen two-level systems in atomic layer deposition oxides

open access: yes, 2013
Two-level system (TLS) defects in dielectrics are known to limit the performance of electronic devices. We study TLS using millikelvin microwave loss measurements of three atomic layer deposited (ALD) oxide films--crystalline BeO ($\rm{c-BeO ...

Epilepsy‐Associated Variants of a Single SCN1A Codon Exhibit Divergent Functional Properties

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Pathogenic variants in SCN1A, which encodes the voltage‐gated sodium channel NaV1.1, are associated with multiple epilepsy syndromes exhibiting a range of clinical severity. SCN1A variants are reported in different syndromes, including Dravet syndrome, which is associated with loss‐of‐function, whereas neonatal/infantile‐onset ...

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting

Low‐Cost, Large‐Scale Nanoporous Metals by Mechanical Alloying, Oxide Reduction, and Dealloying of Powders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Powder metal processing provides scalable advantages in nanoporous (np) metal development. Mechanical alloying is used to produce unique precursors for hybrid nanopore formation by oxide reduction and dealloying. As demonstrated in np Ag, this approach improves process efficiency while promoting smaller ligaments and larger pores, both of which are ...

Photochemical Addition of Hydrogen Chloride and Hydrogen Bromide to 1-Dodecene

open access: yesThe Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, Japan, 1969
